Being a forum hog cause waiting for contractors :/
This top I got a couple years ago, ON cheapo. Looove the print. Even took in the sides to make it less voluminous. But the sleeves feel very Ingenue to me, and I haven't a drop of Ingenue. If it had normal sleeves I'd remove them. I did one day tuck the one sleeve under my arm to make it one shoulder, which I liked better, but needed a strapless bra.

Does the color/print offset the Ingenueish shape?

It doesn’t seem ingenue-ish to me. It just seems tropical and easy/fun.

The dark botanical print tones down the ingenue quality of the top. If it were in sweet pastel tones that would make it too twee.

I do not get the association with "ingenue". What do you think that means? Do you mean twee, sweet, and precious, perhaps?

I do pair it with a black pencil skirt, but haven't found other combos I like. Tried it with shorts- but that all seemed to young, too many horizontal lines.

Yes, Angie. Cap sleeves and "girly young" to Ingenue. In the same way like Peter Pan collars and bows.

No, I do not think the top is ingenue.

They could be worse. They're diagonal so don't emphasize the bust or shoulders too much, but better at lower weight. It's going to the HZ for now.

Agree that the style is Ingenue-ish, but the print and the colours are not. By the way, the colours are very different from the warm, golden colours you have seemed to prefer ...

Personally, I would wear this top in a heartbeat because I actually like this young, but slightly dressy style, am always on the lookout for round-neck tops, love the playful pattern, and know for sure that these cool colours are my colours.

I hear you on the style. Yup. It's problematic for me, too. But I love the colours and print for you. I say, hack off the sleeves (if you can) and if not, turn the top into a scarf or headband. Or (ha!) mask.

I'm not sure that it really reads ingenue to me. I see more boho (perhaps the print is indeed skewing my view, but I think also the looser structure -- an ingenue top would have set in sleeves and elastic at the sleeve hems etc.). But it's hard to know for sure without seeing it on.

I have the sleeveless top in the same fabric from ON. I wear it under the open black shirt with slacks; with denim shorts and white topper; with navy linen pants.
The color/fabric is lovely and don't feel like ingenue to my eye.
I wonder if any RATA jeans or wide pants ( with fringe, cropped? ) will work with that top.

This top looks more boho to me. And yes I think the color and pattern make it less 'girl-ish'. It is kinda cool. It would work for my very occasional boho mood. Usually I am more classic/edgy.

I'm good w boho and gloomy florals! The sleeves are put in on a diagonal, and between that and the elastic neckline may look weird to remove. If there had been a sleeveless version when I got it, I would have bought it!

It would look nice with flowy pants, but I just don't have the climate for it. That would be that 60-70 unicorn weather range, that we don't normally get but a couple weeks a year. Plus it's short and I don't want to show the crotch (see "pants are my nemesis").

Maybe I was shopping for you, the Cat I'd send you it, if I could find this print in a style that works better for me!

I wonder if you could hack the sleeves off and leave the elastic but then take in the elastic so as to create a more fitted cutaway neck? Just thinking aloud. I’d try pinning it to see. I really like the print. I don’t think the sleeves look too young. They look summer bohemian.

Beautiful print that would draw me in, too, but I’d also have trouble with those sleeves. It would be be a tad too sweet for me, too. Given that you also struggle to mix it in your wardrobe, I’d trust your instincts to pass on or put in HZ. I suspect when you put it on, you generally end up choosing something else to wear?

I don’t think there’s anything non- adult about the top per se. It to me is boho and feminine but not sugary. but it just depends on your own “ eye” for your style. I can’t wear that wide of a neckline but have given away tops with similar sleeves as too girly for me. But same thing I might like on someone else. I also really attach to prints and colors and sometimes try to forace an item
to work when the style or fabric is wrong.

Thanks all! It's tighten than I'd like right now, so tossing it in HZ. But it does get limited wear. It has to be really mild, not humid for it to be comfortable. Don't want to pass on all the short sleeve tops, because those days do happen occasionally- but won't add more.
