R&B tux jacket: left behind

Just tried tried this on at Nordstrom. It's a lot: $267, down from $595. Feels like year round material. I don't have anything like this and I feel like it would be a cool addition for going out, having friends in, and of course the upcoming Nashville trip. But is it a crazy purchase?

Wow ! Is that a great jacket! I vote buy. Transseasonal, excellent fit, unique piece, added punch to an outfit - what's to lose? I love it. You look so fantastic too - your hair is looking very cool .

The fit looks great but it is A LOT of a jacket. It would require a very simple support act IMO, best of all column of color to not compete with it.
On the other hand it will dress up any simple outfit easily - just add cool shoes and you are done.
If it will be very useful for you on those conditions then I vote keep.

Another aside from me This is such a classic cut, that it can happily sit in your closet forever without you having to worry that you aren't wearing it enough. Even a few times a season - it'll last forever.

But do Angie's outfit test. Can you think of 3 outfits you'd wear? Or maybe you only need one outfit, if you would wear that outfit a lot of times.

I would also go column of colour but I do think it could be pants/ jeans/ different tops and could also maybe work with a dress or pencil skirt.

It does look great, but I'd want it to create several somewhat different-looking outfits even though it is the main event.

Agree with the column of color goal, so it'd be great if it works over pale neutrals as well as black--sometimes I have to try that out to see if it "wants" optic white, or cream, or gray to pick up the right aspect of the print. I could also see it over a sheath dress which, with "legs", gives a different look from pants but again, would need to be solid black or white something.

Bonus if somehow it can go over a bright color in some way--hot pink or red or something, maybe by using accessories in black or white as tie-ins.
Looking closer, are there blush or beige, tones in the print, or is that my monitor? Anyway, if so, that gives something to connect the jacket to a "third color" .

I love it. Can definitely see it over a solid colour dress as well. Black or white of course but over another strong colour like fuchsia would also look fab.

I really loved it, but it was too expensive for my current budget and too statement-y for my current life. My friend, who was with me, asked if I could think of three ways/occasions to wear it, and I said, book group this week and then twice on vacation in Nashville. I realized I just don't have the money right now to buy expensive items to be worn primarily on vacation. I know I will regret this Some day in the future but maybe then it will be a better time for me to spend $300 on such a wear-rarely piece.

Good thinking! I have to keep my imaginary life and real life in mind, too.

Actually, that does not exclude having a seldom-worn piece in the closet for special occasions, but it can influence which pieces those should be. For me it's something like the special-occasion dress and keeping on hand some kind of dressy shoe I can actually walk in, so I will buy those shoes if and when I come across them. These don't have to be expensive items, but they still give me pause since I know I'll wear them maybe just a few times a year.

Gorgeous jacket, but you were wise to think about it. I would probably have bought it and figured out what to wear later. Some times it is a tough decision when it is a really good markdown. I'm trying not to let that factor sway my decision these days.

I think leaving it behind was the right choice. I did not like it at all. I opted not to comment though because so many other posters loved it and thought it was a great buy. I didn't want to be the single negative voice.

Sterling, next time, please feel free to voice that negative opinion! I am really open to hearing one, especially if you can be specific about what you don't like, but even if an item just doesn't move you.

I'm late, I know, but I so loved. You'd better try Zara or H&M for something similar, and so you'll get a great deal for these great visuals. I have a black animal print on a winter creamy/white background jacket (from H&M bought 3 yrs ago-and may be found somewhere in my archives here, too) wich is also a lot of jacket, as Sveta said. Even I have worn it only for a few occasions, it is so special in succesfully giving me that much needed boost sometimes that I never regreted it. Mine was worn on a column of black (but built of plenty of interest in textures like black leather/black sequined skirt and/or black lurex/black sequined top, then same black bottoms and a white lurex top...so how many variations do a girl need more... It's all good (minus the price of yours of course, which sucks, indeed:-(.

I applaud your rationale in leaving it behind. I often feel a little pang when I leave something awesome behind - until I remember that something equally great, or even better always comes along. Always.
