I bought a pair of raw-hem jeans from J. Crew that I love. There was just the right amount of fraying at the raw hem. However, I've found that as I continue to wash and wear them, the fraying is increasing, so it looks a little "fluffier" than I'd like. Should I just take a scissors and trim off the excess, and will it eventually stop fraying? Or do I need to have someone at the alterations department sew above the fraying to prevent it from continuing further? Or take some Fray-Chek to it (I used to use this for cross-stitching, but I'm not sure that that will survive the wash)?

I know very little about sewing so feel like a fish out of water here...
