Yesterday I took a spin through the nearby Nordstrom Rack. Mostly it was uninspiring — there was a big clearance sale happening and a lot of varying merchandise was crowded onto the racks. That means a lot of digging and patience and I wasn’t really in the mood for that.
However, I did stumble on this jacket. I love this sage-y olive color — it works so much better on me that the more yellowish tones. There was only one on the rack, and it was a size L so I didn’t have high hopes. But trying it on, I think the slight oversized nature of it doesn’t look bad. It’s lightweight and has some drape, so it doesn’t puff out and swamp me. The sleeves scrunch nicely, and it hangs nicely even with a little extra room. I think it has a slight bit of that architectural Japanese vibe, which I enjoy as a change of pace from my usual more fitted outerwear styles. Kind of like the Gary Graham/Levi’s upside-downable jacket (which I love), but actually a little more wearable. I really like the open detail on the sides at the hem — that design helps mitigate the oversized feel and lends more structure to a voluminous garment. I like when boxy tops have that too.
I found product pics on the designers website (an Australian brand), since I can’t find it elsewhere for a Find. I’ll try to find some time for a styling session and try-on soon. I could only see it with the tee and Zara sarong shorts I was wearing yesterday which is definitely not how I’d wear it, LOL. I see pics of these long bombers styled with short skirts and leggings but that ain’t gonna happen for me, so I need to make sure it works with slim (not skinny) jeans and boots or sneakers. The fit on me is a little bigger than what you see in the model stock photos, but not overwhelmingly so, especially when I scrunch the sleeves. I would be able to layer under this to my hearts content.
It’s a bit of a wild card, but I’m really enjoying longer jackets and toppers these days, especially when they are not heavy. So just curious, in the meantime until I get around to a try-on, how would you suggest styling this for my particular style? I have ideas but am always curious to see if others have ideas that may not have occurred to me.
