I would wear them with wool socks to counter the breathability issue. I have knee-high hunters that I wear all day if I wear them. I typically only bring them out on days when i know I'll be walking around in rain a lot. I also own a few pair of Aquatalia boots, which are waterproof, but not rubber. They work for MOST of our drizzly days, but I hesitate to wear them when the weather is a real monsoon such as we've had off and on recently. If I am going to spend a significant chunk of time indoors where the boots will feel unwieldy, but the weather is so horrendous that I don't want to step out without rubber boots, then I'll bring shoes to change into. I usually find it annoying to carry extra pairs, though, so I try to avoid that.
