Raincoat....Why so expensive?

I still have not found a raincoat that I like so I have been raincoat-less so far this winter. I came upon this one and I am in love but it is way too much money for an article of clothing that will not be worn a lot. I now sit here and pout

This is so tempting to me... I have been looking a long time to replace a DKNY of similar style I had about 10 years and wore thru pregnancy. I do live in a rainy climate so that might be the reason it would make sense on a cost per wear for me but not for you.

I can point out that Max Mara is beautiful quality, hence the $$$ and an item like this should have longevity due to the classic nature of the design.

What a gorgeous coat! . The price reflects the style and quality that the brand is known for. They have a beautiful reversible wool coat out now, in lemon and beige, but I know that the sizes will be gone long before there's a price reduction. I will join you in a little pout of my own

Is it me or the sleeves are super short? I've been keeping an eye out for a new raincoat too, but for my oh so frequent "storms" here, I can't justify this kind of cost either.

Keep looking. Besides, it looks like it has 3/4 sleeves. Wouldn't you rather hold out for something with longer sleeves? (I am trying, here!)

The sleeves would be the PERFECT length on me, I bet. Just sayin'. I love this design too, and the color is great. I also am disappointed that it's so darn expensive. I'm not even sure what I'd be willing to pay for a raincoat. I guess it can double as a plain fall or spring jacket too, but that's a lot of money. I just keep thinking, "It's polyester!"

Polyester, short sleeves, high price. On the other hand, Max Mara is a good brand. I haven't seen this coat in real life, but I am hoping to find a non-trench raincoat one of these days. The photo may not do it justice, but it doesn't look it's worth nearly $600 to me.

I second the suggestion to look at Lands End. I looked through their catalogue yesterday and was tempted by a few styles. Feedback from anyone who has tried one of their coats would be great.

I love Max Mara. Gorgeous stuff. But if you don't live where it rains a lot, that is quite a bit to pay.
