Rainboots - Too Wide at Top

Today I bought some rubber rainboots at Target. Even with the buckle adjusted, they are very wide at the top. My calves are slender, but I need boots and these were all I could afford. Do you find that rainboots tend to sit outside of the "must fit snugly to calf" rule with leather boots?

I have muscular calves, so this isn't an issue for me, but yes, in my experience rainboots fall outside of this rule. Most rainboots seem to be cut wide in the calf.

I want to say yes because I have this problem too, but I don't think it's terribly practical to have your boots filling up with water as you walk. I tried some rainboots from the kids department and they fit more snugly but were a bit short. It might be a good solution if your feet are small enough to overlap with kids sizes.

I wear welly socks with mine, which fill in the gap and fold over the top of the welly x

At this point Target rainboots fit my budget, but someday I'd love some Hunters or another similar brand. Meanwhile, I was able to adjust the buckles a little more and just walked across town without the buckles slipping. Rain inside that opening is a concern, but I'm thinking some leg warmers might look cute up to the knee and take up some of that extra space. These are so cute in the shiny "sparkle black" style at Target.com. Super comfy but you might need to buy a size down. I'm a 7 1/2 and had to buy a size 7.
