I’m mostly looking for function over form advice here, although I don’t mind if they look nice.
I’m looking for a pair of rain & mud boots. These are not for city wear, but for camping and wet walks. There are some camping situations we are in where when we get heavy rain I’m finding my existing footwear is not suitable. A few times camping in Vermont this summer the mud was inches deep after heavy rain, and took a few days to dry out. I’m now on the way to another camping weekend that will start out with 2-3” of rain before clearing up. This very rainy summer and now fall have driven the need to find better rain & mud suitable footwear home for me. I have a pair of crocs (the holes make them not good for wet conditions) and a pair of waterproof garden shoes (not high enough to protect against deep mud and too low cut to keep rain from getting in). My hiking boots, while purportedly waterproof, aren’t easy to clean mud from.
I’d like to find something that is comfortable enough to walk a few miles in, has good traction and is easy to hose off. I have high arches and like a wide toe box. They don’t need to be super warm, in fact since this is a three season need I would rather they not be insulated. I’ve been looking at these, from Le Chameau, Hunter, and Merry People. I think I will have to order any candidates as I haven’t seen any of these in stores. Where else should I be looking? Farm supply stores? Thanks for any suggestions you have.
