Ah Rachylou, I was trying to say too many things at one time. I'll try again. I was trying to say that in general, I think that the coat looks voluminous (in a good way) and it would be nice to see it with a slightly more fitted pair of pants or jeans. Also, that I think that the general vibe of the jacket feels hip-hop. I was not trying to say that slimmer pants would look more hip-hop. In fact I agree that a wider leg is more in keeping with that style.
Also, I think that a wider leg could look even better in a hip-hop style if the denim were more distressed or had more contrast stitching at the side seam like gold, red or white. I think that the jeans KAL is wearing are a little too traditional (typical for prior to 1980) to read as exciting with the jacket. I envision the plain jeans he is wearing in the photo as going more convincingly with a barn coat or peacoat.
