Had a morning of Post Office and errands, and so somehow the Gap quilted jacket in red XS is in now in my vehicle!
May be just mirror-foolery, but for a quilted jacket it doesn't seem to overwhelm with puffery. The side pockets are slanted and in the perfect hand-warmer spot so are both flattering and useful--as opposed to big patch pockets. Belted is a plus and a minus--more trouble, but this belt seems to allow a casual "tie" and is set lower on the waist, which is good for me, and it's not double-breasted.
Have to take it home to see how it works. Although it's casual, I would need it to work as one of my "parking lot" jackets with work slacks/tops/sweaters, and not just jeans, in order to justify it's place in my wardrobe. I was wearing a pencil skirt when I tried it on and it actually looked pretty good with that, so maybe! I would not wear it over another jacket/blazer, but it fits over a cardigan. I got the red because a) it was the obvious choice for me of the 3 colors and b) since it would be more of a fun coat than a super-classic, I can use a spot of color in my outerwear c) it should go both ends of my spectrum split-personality neutrals of black/gray and brown/taupe/camel.
The red is slightly more orangey than my favorite red, but still a pretty brickish red and not shiny. The gray looks yuck on me and I don't do navy.
