Greeting!

I had a $20 off coupon for DSW, and I headed down looking for "gearish" sandals -- you know, those "12 hours at Six Flags Great America" type of shoes. Well, I came across some neutral sandals which might fit the bill (although not waterproof), and these boots on the clearance rack. Now, I won't likely wear them til Fall, but I do have "tan/brown boots" on the list. These are as close to RATE or UWP as I can safely get. What do you think of the length and styling? I don't know that I'll wear them bare legged, but could I? Also, I'd like a "frump check" on the sandal, bearing in mind that it's to function in place of Birkenstocks or trainers.

Well, you know I like the boots! I think they're adorable for Fall, and I wear mine with bare legs all the time.

The sandals are waaaaay cuter than Birkies IMO. If those babies are 12-hour shoes, I think you scored.

I think these are both great Beth Ann - you can definitely wear the boots bare legged and with skirts/dresses. And those sandals are gorgeous.

Thanks, everyone! Rae, I know these barely touch the edges of UPW, but I think they'll do nicely for me, and they're better quality than anything I currently own.

I think the shaft length is kind of interesting, but it looks better on my bare leg than booties than the Report that everyone else wears so beautifully. The sandals have a wonderful footbed a rubber (yeah, I know, but it gives) sole and they cradle my foot without rubbing or slipping. The only thing they won't do? Handle the water rides!

You should be able to pick up some waterproofing spray for the sandals (and hey, the boots, too). The one sold at Nordies is popular. I've used the Wilson's leather brand, and it does not alter the color of the leather. I also bought a can of Kiwi heavy duty spray at Target for $8 - that is supposed to work on canvas as well as leather - I used this on my cotton anorak, and it worked well. Haven't tried the last one on leather yet.

Score two for two! I have used the Kiwi waterproof spray and it does not hurt the leather at all. I use it on most of my sandals actually - summer has so many unexpected water events with those mister things and sprinklers and such.

Those are fantastic looking comfortable sandals! I don't think you could have done any better, and I hope the waterproofing works. I like the boots too, though I'm not as well-versed on them as Rae and the others are!

I love them both and you did well at DSW! See! Now, you're ready for Spring, Summer and Fall! Plus, you've got to feel great that the boots were on your list! Now, you can cross that off. Yay!

Well those sandals are certainly a fab upgrade to Birks or trainers! I like the mixed metallics. Love the boots, what a good idea to waterproof sandals! That sounds like something I need to do in my neck of the woods too....

Thanks again, everyone, for the thumbs up. Mona: I've always been a "black boots and tights only" girl. I've got a plan to add some more neutrals to my winter colors of purple, teal and red. I'd like to try mixing in some navy, cognac and taupe, and these boots are the first part of this change. I'm thinking of trying some mushroom colored tights, maybe with just a little texture, come fall. I've wanted to try some deep, colored tights, too -- no brights, since I think they'd look a little "young" on me. But I could see these boots paired with deep eggplant. I'd like my use of black to be more deliberate and thoughtful, not a "fall back"when I don't know what else to do! This length of boot is an unusual choice, but I think it's a proportion that works on my leg, and at $30 for real leather, it seemed like a good opportunity to try something new.
