I had a half hour to kill yesterday next door to a huge Anthro store, so I risked temptation and cruised through. Actually a half hour is good in a big store, because it's enough time to scope out the offerings but not really enough to try anything on.

The good/bad for me is that the spring offerings are not to my taste. Too many earth tones and pastels again. Oversized fuzzy sweaters, ditsy florals and odd prints, and flouncy shirts, which don't appeal to me. Lots of stuff that skewed too boho. Easy to walk by without an ounce of interest.

However, the denim department looked interesting. It does appear that more bootcut and flare jeans are appearing at retail, which makes me happy, and I may have to revisit in a couple of weeks. There was a great pair of Paige bootcut jeans in a coated black finish, and also a nice dark reddish pair of Paige bootcuts -- something I haven't seen as all the coated and colored jeans seem to have been limited to skinny styles for the last decade. I hope the tide is turning away from skinnies! I'm quite tired of them, and have barely reached for them this winter. Most of mine are now hanging out in my holding zone. I've also barely worn my tall boots, but don't want to get rid of them because they're good with skirts in winter, and they may get worn more in years to come. Tall boots are tougher to fit (many are too short and too tight in the calf), so I tend to hang onto them for years once I find good ones.

One of my favorite pairs of bootcut jeans -- one by Lucky Brand -- is developing a thin spot at the seam in the crotch. Unusual for my experience with them, or any jeans for that matter. And they've barely faded. So I may need to replace them sometime soon, which is part of why I'm keeping an eye on those bootcut denim offerings.

I'm in a really good place with my wardrobe. I'm able to pull together good outfits for the needs in my life without a huge amount of thought or planning. I'm just wearing what I have, happily, and not having any big cravings or desires to shop. I added a small number of new items in January and have been enjoying all of them.

One thing I would like to add in the months ahead is another pair of good comfortable fashion sneakers. My old snake print slip-on sneakers are getting a bit old, and I think it's time to update those this year. I thought I might do that last year but put it off.

If spring shopping starts to tempt me, I just need to remember that spring here is very short -- it's no time before the weather turns hot and humid and I move to summer dresses and sandals.
