I agree with Peri!! It is not the colour but how they are worn and combined.
When I got married (1998) my theme was periwinkle blue dresses and yellow flowers - it was very much an "in" colour combination at the time. It works - but it can be dated now. Or in the 1980s black and strong colours such as emerald green or purple, or pink and grey. Or in the 1970s brown and orange.
I would wear these colours together now but in a different way...But it has taken me a while to come back to pink and grey. I still prefer to wear black with another neutral or alone, rather than with red or cobalt or fuschia.
Back to the coat though - I think it is a little flat. You have a killer fashion forward look and the coat reads as quite ladylike. It could be styled in a more fashion way but it might be harder work.
