Quick question about Nordstrom free alterations

I'm thinking about ordering some premium jeans from online during NAS. However, as a short-legged petite, I will most likely need alterations (28.5-29" inseam). Two questions:

1) I've heard that the free alterations on regular-price items also applies to NAS, is this true? Otherwise, do I need to be a cardholder and use those free alterations?

2) Can I bring in online orders several weeks after the fact to be altered in-store? Where I am for the summer, until mid-August, is 2-3 hours away from a Nordstrom, but when I go back to the East Coast there will be one at my local mall. I was thinking that I could order a few pairs of jeans and try them on, send back the ones I don't want, and then get the keepers hemmed a month later. Will this plan work? (And do all Nordstroms have on-site alterations? The one I'd be visiting is very small, as far as department stores go.)

I think free alterations are only available for cardholders, up to a certain amount, per year but I could be wrong. If that is the case, I'm assuming you can bring the clothes back to Nordies anytime. it is a paid service after all.

Cardholders receive an alterations budget based on their spending level the prior year. Each alteration is charged to the card, then refunded but counts toward the annual budget amount. It doesn't matter if you purchased online (I get alterations at the Rack as well). Without the card you can get alterations on Nordstrom purchases, but they would not be free as far as I know.

As far as I know you can get the jeans hemmed for free.

From the website:
Every Nordstrom store has on-site alterations and tailoring. Simply take any items you would like altered and your packing slip to a store near you. Fees for this service are determined after the item has been fitted, based on the complexity of your request. Select services are free on full-priced merchandise.

I believe that hemming denim is one of these free services, and I think it is extended for the Anniversary sale, although you could check on this with a quick online chat with Customer Service.

Also, you could wait to return the items to the store rather than mailing them back. Just a thought!

"Available to Levels:
With complimentary alterations, you'll always enjoy the perfect fit on your purchases from Nordstrom.com, Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack. So go ahead: try on those extra-long pants.
Depending on your membership level, the value of your alterations benefit varies.
Level 1: $100
Level 2: $200
Level 3: $300
Level 4: Unlimited
Your Nordstrom credit or debit card will be charged for alterations at the time of purchase, and a refund will be reflected on your next billing statement. The alterations benefit is not cumulative as you progress through the Fashion Rewards levels."
