Quick poll on those floral pumps

So about those floral pumps that I love:

My husband very kindly got them for me for my birthday. They are beautiful. They are also comfortable and stable enough for everyday wear. My birthday isn't until the summer, though, so he's going to tuck them away somewhere until then.

But I have one question that perhaps you can help me with. I tried the shoes on with everything I own, and they go with a lot, but not everything. However, I have a big gaping wardrobe hole for simple black pumps for everyday wear. I have several skirts that really would look best with a high-ish (but not too high) black pump with no strap. These shoes in the black colourway would fill that wardrobe hole perfectly.

So what do you think? Go with the ones that I fell for, but will likely only be worn in the spring/summer? Or go with the black ones, which are also beautiful (and the "x" detailing makes them interesting), that can be worn year round? My heart says floral, but my head says black.

These are so unique. I love that the color could read as a low contrast neutral and go with a lot of different things.

I didn't know what to expect - maybe pastels. The floral ones are beautifully burnished looking. They'll go very well with winter items. Sure you can't get him to loan them to you now?

Go with the tattoo shoes! There must be other options in plain black and they should be easier to find anytime if you need them, yes? (says the person looking for a pair all last year ::eyeroll::)

But seriously --- these are unique and they are statement shoes. Unless buying these means you will not be able to get a black pair anytime soon and will end up orphaning a lot of your wardrobe, I would grab the opportunity and hold on to them.

Also, I can't be sure, but I think with the right garments and accessories, these CAN be transitioned to autumn/winter. Think a more gothic-inspired level of drama...

E--look for a basic black pair of pumps that are comfy, classic and serviceable, but go with your heart...these sang to you and you should keep them. They are so lovely.

I'd say go for the floral ones. I think that a birthday gift should be something a bit special, that you wouldn't necessarily buy for yourself. You can always keep your eye out for a plain black pump, and maybe you'll find a nice pair on sale that will do the trick.

OK, floral it is! I was definitely leaning that way, because I'm not likely to come across another shoe like that anytime soon. And I agree that birthday gifts should be something special. But finding a good pair of comfy, elegant black pumps that have a heel the right height and thickness is harder than you think! Maybe I'll save up and hope they still have that pair, or something like it, next year.

Sylvie, for some reason that link doesn't work for me. What does the shoe look like? I'm a size 5.5 or 6.

Unfortunately I've gotta say go with the black.

I looked for black ones for about ten years and finally settled on something that was very pricey but not perfect. Of course the following season they had exactly what I wanted.

Fun shoes are so great. I bought a pair and have worn them twice while my black ones that aren't so great have been warn multiple times...

Aaaargh Freckles, why'd you have to go and say that? Now I'm waffling again...

ETA: The one thing about Fluevog is that if a particular shoe is a hit, they often carry it in the black colourway for several years. I learned this the hard way: three years ago, I fell in love with and bought my first pair of Fluevogs, a pair of calf boots with little buttons up the side. I couldn't decide between the black ones or the olive/taupe ones. I went for the black, figuring they would go with more (they do). But I really loved the olive ones too, and by the time I could afford a second pair, they were gone, gone, gone. Three years later, Fluevog still carries that boot....but only in black.

Ooh, very nice. Speaking of funky patterned pumps - have you seen Girl X's pump creation? Amazing. Same idea, but she used comic strip print. She really needs to get rich off her talents! Okay, I am picturing the florals substituted for black pumps and think it would work for the kind of style you describe yourself as having. They have black in them and you don't wear lots of color. And yes, the black is likely to be around longer. So I still say floral!

Due to your experience with the boots I have changed my vote to the floral...

I have incredibly difficult to fit feet and that crazy Italian designer who makes shoes as if they were custom made for me is very hard to find here. There is only one supplier and since the father died they have not been getting many products here.

Florals for sure!! Those are the ones you loved in the first place and you can get black later. The ones you picked in the first place are amazing!!

Yesterday I went back to the store with a friend to try on the shoes. I had only seen the black ones, but not tried them on. Well, ladies, they look REALLY GOOD on. You know how that sometimes happens? Something looks nice on display, but awesome in ways you didn't anticipate when you put it on? My friend and I agreed that both the floral and the black were beautiful, but for totally different reasons.

I've tried on the floral ones with everything I own and they go with lots of things in my wardrobe, but here's the thing: I have two pairs of beautiful red heels that go equally well with the things the florals go with. And the things the red pumps don't totally go with? The florals don't, either. But the blacks would literally go with *everything* I own (except maybe I wouldn't wear them with short skirts, since I only wear boots with short skirts). I kind of feel like I'm trying justify it somehow, to force the floral shoes into my wardrobe because they are *so pretty*....but maybe they're not really me.

Incidentally, unlike you, Transcona Shannon, my heart does sometimes lead me wrong. My head never does. I'm the analytical type. My worst decisions, fashion or otherwise, have always been the impulse ones.

Reading between the lines Elisabeth I feel you are doubting the floral purchase and wish you had chosen the black. If the black does all kind of awesomeness on your feet and fills a wardrobe hole then they get my vote.

*In the interest of full disclosure I have to add that I have been looking for the right black heels for what feels like an eternity.*

I think I'd keep the gorgeous floral shoes, and stalk the black ones. I think the floral print can be just as all weather as the black, it's just a bolder statement. Also, it's a really sweet gift from your husband - he might really love them on you!
