Scarlet -- another one for hooves! I totally don't see it. I understand the "witchy" comments, but I've never seen hooves that look like that. They seem slightly phallic to me, actually. (Although Fluevog did make a line of boots with a cloven heel a decade or so ago -- look up "Grand Nationals". Talk about fetish wear!).

Diana -- the burgundy ones are indeed drool-worthy. I love how the back part and the straps are black, while the rest of it is burgundy. But what I really, really could use are a pair of black ass-kicker short boots, and these ones look really good in real life. So often with Fluevogs (or any other shoes), I prefer the coloured option (which is weird, because for clothing I gravitate toward the black options), and the black option just seems boring. But these ones don't. To my eye, the black ones say "hard rock" more than "witch", especially in real life. They are not delicate, like witchy shoes can be. They are all angles and thick leather, and are on the masculine side (although that impression might be in part due to the phallic toe).

Sylvie -- actually, they ARE flattering. I wasn't expecting them to be. Also fun. The real problem is: after the first few wears, where I'll be hyper-aware of my feet, will my comfort level adjust? I need these for everyday wear, not special-occasion wear. I've got special-occasion covered. On Commercial Drive, I'd fit right in. Among the soccer moms in the suburbs, not so much. But maybe I don't care. I'm trying to decide if I care.

I thought "witchy" too - but yes, a hard-rock witch.
They are so sculptural on their own - I can imagine how they would start to look less conspicuous on your feet.

I like them! can you post a photo wearing them with your jeans? From the knee down is okay!

OK, Elizabeth, I'm exercising my prerogative to change my mind. Those shoes are moving from my "uh, no" to my "hmm, kind of cool" category. Actually, I find that true of many Fluevog designs; his styles are so different that my eye often needs a bit of time to adjust. I'm starting crave those burgundy ones...

Wicked.

As in cool, not as in witch.

I really like them in burgundy. If you say they look good on, in black, and that's your need, and they are comfy --- well...&$%^ the soccer moms.

Are the soccer moms a metaphor or are they really the arbiter of all things sartorial? I don't think we have a UK equivalent.

Gaylene, to be honest my first reaction was also, "uh, I think not". Funny how things grow on you.

Suz, you are so funny. I do in fact like a lot of the soccer moms, but since I already don't fit in, sartorially speaking...

They are indeed very comfy. The heel doesn't feel as high as it looks.

ETA: Julie, I'm not sure what the English equivalent of "soccer mom" is. It's not a metaphor. They are real people. It means the kind of woman who has chosen to buy a house out in the suburbs to raise her children, and is sufficiently invested in their extra-curricular activities to stand out in the rain (why is it always in the rain?) every weekend watching them play soccer. Which means that technically I'm a soccer mom, but I don't dress like one. They tend to wear yoga pants and uggs, or casual jeans and leather knee boots. Not desperately unstylish, on the whole, but certain not bleeding edge or unique in any way.

Vultures spring to mind.

Contrived - too much, too stiff looking.

I seriously looked at them recently. I love everything about them, except the toe. But I think I could grow to like even that part. I would love to see them on.

No worries, Julie. Do you not have something similar in the UK?

So, I think the bottom line is, these boots are polarizing. Most of the responses have been in the "urgh, awful" category (weird, contrived, reminiscent of hooves, hammertoes, or vultures! etc), but the ones that were positive were enthusiastically so.

Sorry, "hammertoes" isn't an adjective. That's just the first thing that popped into my head. I could imagine someone with hammertoes finding them really comfortable! I have terrible feet, though, so my perceptions are skewed. I guess they look vaguely orthopedic to me.

Not an adjective, but Edward Scissorhands comes to mind.

Reminiscent of Darth Vader and Edward Scissorhands....hmm, neither association is a turnoff...

Although, hehe, Alicat, "orthopedic" is not the exact look I'm going for.

Hammertoes, Mick J., & Keith R. came to mind when I saw the black ones. IMHO, the burgundy ones are more interesting (as long as you're paying that much!) and actually might *go* with just as much. I'd love to see them on, as I've heard that Vogs are more flattering on than one might expect.

Mick Jagger and Keith Richards? Still not a turnoff...

Maybe I *should* try the burgundy ones. Just to see. I'm not actually paying for them, as I have a gift certificate (generous in-laws!) so the money has already been spent.

I'm with Suz: Wicked!

I like them and I bet they look softer on. I've notice that often Fluevogs are hard to pin down. Some look better in photos, some look bleh but look thunderstruck awesome on. Any chance of an on the foot photo?

goth

futuristic Beatles

kewl!

Kick-ass.

No chance of a pic on your feet?

Super cool! I would wear them if my feet would let me.

Like, don't love, but am perfectly willing to promote them once I see them styled.

ETA - oops adjective: ALGO

Masculine and kind of trannie. But cool.

I completely understand your love of weird shoes, and they are a far less destructive and cheaper habit than heroin.

And... um... that's all I am going to say on that topic.

Your drug argument on page 1 won me over. LOL.

In case it's unclear, vampire pirate is totally a positive thing - go for the heroin!!!
