Question re: SE Python Booties

Now that I know I'm keeping my new slouchy skinnies, I'm looking to all my various booties to wear with them. I have: black wedge booties, blue suede booties, red booties, and cognac booties. My other boots are either mid calf or knee lengh which aren't ideal for these jeans (at least fo rme personally).

I have pondered off and on about the Sam Edelman python booties and love them on those of you who wear them. I especially like the idea of them with my slouchy skinnies.

I worry about the bookending issue because of my dark hair although Inge assures me I can pull it off and Angie has commented that the black/white of the booties sort of mimics my salt-n-pepper hair.

My question is whether or not I would need to wear something lighter coloured in the outfit in order to pull them off - i.e. my cream fisherman knit sweater, light coloured scarf, lighter snakeskin belt?

Inge has these booties, and brown hair :). She loves them and wears them perfectly! I hope she chimes in.

I think the whole bookending thing works especially well for blondes: light hair/light footwear. Redheads and chestnut boots or footwear is extra striking too.

But for darker haired people I am of the opinion that bookending doesn't matter, or isn't such a valid consideration. If you are light skinned, your face provides the "wearing something light" that balances or pulls it all together.

And tagging onto Claudia's thinking, I believe that ladies with black or very dark hair wear black shoes, black trousers and black opaque tights much more easily than ladies with light hair.

I agree, Angie...much to my consternation, at times, because it is so much easier to find black trousers, black footwear, and black opaque tights that fit than any other colour! I have really become conscious of needing something darker up top to balance this since YLF, and also of trying to find other shoe, hose, and trouser/ skirt options.

ETA: Shannon, I think those booties would look superb with your colouring and also with many of your existing pieces. I am considering them myself but do not know if they would be as useful/ versatile for me.

And yes, I really do believe these would be wonderful for (and on) you, Shannon. Especially after reading your boots list above, I think these would be a very versatile addition to your wardrobe. There's something about this snakeskin pattern and the colours that works brilliantly with many other colours and patterns. Plus they are super comfy, always a big bonus.

I'm often not too worried about bookending, and have worn these booties plenty of times without adding another light-coloured accent to my outfit. E.g. with black skinny pants, blue denim shirt and grey pinstriped blazer, dressy dark grey slim-fitting trousers and a hunter green argyle turtleneck sweater... And if I say so myself, I think this did work:-)

I like your ideas for bookending the booties, a cream coloured bag or colour-blocked bag with a lighter shade will work too. But I honestly don't think it's always necessary. Totally agree with Angie about your fab salt and pepper coloured hair too:-)

I also second what Suz is saying above: just off the top of my head, the booties would look stunning with your new slouchy skinnies (so glad you are keeping them!), your slouchy black trousers, blue boot cut jeans, white jeans, grey Glen paid wide-legged trousers, houndstooth blazer, new cobalt blue jacket...

From Nordstrom. I wanted to order from Amazon because they are cheaper but they no longer have the python in stock. ShopBob no longer has my size and ShoeMe doesn't have them at all.

Yup. I know. And Zappos (where they are on super sale) doesn't ship to Canada. Sigh...

Well, will you please let me know how they fit when you get them? I am going to wait a little longer, but I am strongly considering them for myself as well. Even though I do not have the salt and pepper hair. I think they would work really well with my greys and with jeans as well as with my black trousers. I love the toe shape; it is very elegant and lengthening to the leg, even though the heel is not high. Quite a design miracle.

Shannon, I ordered and returned them.The color felt too light for my coloring but I have super long dark hair, plus the daintiness gave me a bit of the "ice cream cone effect". I think those will work for you, however. Also, they can make your foot seem too long. I went half a size down and they still fit great.

I know Suz - Zappos has them on for $112! What was interesting is I tried though Zappos because they give you an option to log in and pay through your Amazon account, which I have and does ship to Canada, and they still won't allow it

Nordstrom was still free shipping but with duty, the total came to $213. I will definitely let you know how the fit is. Because my Sam Edeleman red Lisle booties are a 6.5 and fit perfectly, that's what I ordered in these ones. Here's hoping they fit the same!

Zap - interesting that you were able to size down and have them still fit.

Inge - I will definitely report back once my pretties have arrived! Shipping from Nordie's usually takes 2 - 2.5 weeks. Out of curiosity, did you order your regular size? Note Zap's comment above.

Yes, it does take a while for our goodies to arrive on our doorstep, doesn't it:-)
I did order my regular size, Shannon (38.5) and the booties fit great, there's room for an insole, and they don't pinch my toes, I'm very happy with the fit.

(maybe half a size down could have worked too, but I don't like a super snug fit for my boots. Also, if it helps: I don't feel they make my feet look too long)

Shannon, you will love these. I think they will look great with your coloring and will take you well into cool spring days when dark colors seem too heavy. I ordered my usual size and they are just slightly big in length but I can put in an insole. Right now I often wear them with medium weight socks. Mine seemed narrow in the toe on my bigger foot at first, but quickly stretched to be comfortable.

Shoe Me did have them, but they must have all sold out. I hate that Zappos doesn't sell to Canada any more.

I thought this Kendi Everyday's blog post was a great example of dark hair and a light complexion face-as-"bookending" as the outfit element with light colored boots/footwear.
