Question: Jackets under coats?

Hi, ladies!

I loved being able to dress skirts down in the spring/summer/fall with a denim jacket, but now that winter's here, that option seems to be out. Can I wear a denim jacket under a coat like I would a blazer, or are denim jackets too outerwear for that? Do you have any favorite winter dressing-down tips?

I wear my denim jacket under my outerwear winter coats. Also blazers, leather jackets... any jacket I'd wear indoors really.

I'd wear a denim jacket like a blazer. You could also dress down skirts with a denim, leather/suede or furry vest, denim shirt, flat boots or oxfords. Another idea would be a leather/faux leather moto jacket. I also bought a knit jacket this fall that's more casual than a regular jacket but more structured than a cardigan. It's been a favorite.

Wear almost all my jackets under my coats all the time. Denim jackets for sure!

Yes, all winter I layer jackets (blazers, denim, etc.) under my winter outerwear coats. I purposefully buy my outerwear roomy enough to layer under.

Me too, me too! Wore my denim jacket under my wool coat yesterday.

In fact, if I DIDN'T layer like this, I'd be too cold!

I live in Minnesota (altho you wouldn't know it this winter) - so yes, I wear jackets under coats all the time!

I know what you mean about the weather in the middle part of the country right now! I wore a sweaterdress with a denim jacket earlier this week when it was about 50 and sunny on Sunday If it was colder, I would have thrown a coat over it and left the jean jacket on when I was inside.

I wear all my blazers in the winter months and put my outer coat over it for outside. I would do the same for a denim jacket. I just leave it as part of the outfit.

I wear my jackets, including my denim one, under outerwear all the time. In fact, today I wore a navy and coral striped tee with a navy twill moto-style jacket, and put on a gray leather jacket that's a little big on me now as my outerwear coat. Worked fine!

I do this for sure! Throw on a fuzzy scarf too that you can wear indoors.
