Question from my husband: what are "Mom jeans" for men?

My husband was reading an editorial this morning that described a male political candidate as wearing "Mom jeans."

His question: what are "Mom jeans" when the term is applied to men's jeans?

Oh yes! My dh has some. He's only allowed to wear them for painting. His are really old, super faded Levi's and Gap jeans with baggy thighs and tapered legs. They are just awful. Here's a "visual" link:

That is hilarious! My bf lives in "mom jeans." But I appreciate the frumpiness. It is, in fact, a very strict aesthetic for him.

My husband wears them (Levi's 550 and 560). They look good on him, though. The times that I've tried to update his pants were a disaster. Though I do buy the darker washes for him now. I've been thinking about trying to update again, because he's upgraded his shoe choice to modern-style Merrells...

Is there a male equivalent to "mutton dressed as lamb"? Would updated jeans look that way on a 50- or 60-something man?

Just pondering out loud here. . . I will never get my husband out of his Wrangers!

My BF is 51. He is stylish, but not trendy. We have a friend who will be turning 40 next month and he *is* trendy. The blingy pocket jeans and Affliction shirts, etc. I think it started when he was managing the Cabo Wabo bar in Harvey's Casino and living the 'rock star' life with the Hagars lol. Anyway, I could *never* get my BF into what his friend wears, nor would I want to ha ha. But updating from the tapered, light wash Levi's had to happen several years ago. I basically said," look, this is way outdated" and bought him some True Religions Now he has 2 more pair of updated, but non blingy, Citizens of Humanity jeans and he looks sharp!

Light wash (looks more like a sky blue not an authentic faded wash) with a big belt and tucked in shirt worn up high (just under the man gut). Sounds like my IT Dept. Sorry guys.

So what are some "cool" jeans for guys? My guy is 61 and I just got him out of relaxed fit Levi's and into slim fit Wranglers. He thinks dark wash are, well, not a nice word!

Hahaha! My DH (54) will only wear the Brett Favre style (total Dad jeans) Wrangler's from Wal-Mart. He says that he's willing to sacrifice so I can have better clothes, lol! I'm just happy when he changes out of his plaid lounge pants on his days off! The other day he was wearing a striped polo shirt and put a plaid button-down over it like a jacket when he got cold. I told him that he looked cute with the pattern mixing and he thought I was totally being sarcastic, but he really looked cute.
