Wow, great painting! I like the plain background best, it doesn't compete with the subject. Are you a professional artist? What medium is this, oil or acrylic? You are very talented!
carole--thanks a lot. I'm a psychologist who paints to blow her own steam. This one is acrylic paint on a paper plate, and it's a painting of an author I love, Haruki Murakami. I'm (paying a gallery so i can have) a little opening on Friday in case you live in NYC.
I think you're right--plain background is better. i just sometimes wish my ambitions to overleap worked better.
Hi there and welcome. I LOVE the first one....you are quite talented. I like that it looks like sea glass or stained glass.
The second seems a bit incongruent to me because it is almost halo like. Though if you are going for the person have a near-death experience, the light around his face would look better.
I guess it comes down to what you are trying to say. But again, if I were at a gallery, the first really catches my eye.
