Question - MK tote - should I get?

Hi everyone,

Hoping to get some feedback from this brilliant group. I am in the market for a new classic tote, and I came across this Michael Kors one, which I can get basically free (but at the expense of waiting and getting something else free, which is why I am debating it). I love the shape and look, but there are two things I'm not sure about:

The logo'ing - tacky?
The color - love the brown, but most of my boots and shoes are black - too much of a mismatch?

I dislike logos, but I don't consider this one tacky, since it comes across as basically a subtle pattern. And I think brown and black are great together, although maybe the handles and trim on this would be a bit jarring with black -- it would be easier to know in person. Also, will it work with your coats and jackets?

Suz, thanks for your reply! My jackets are all blues and navies, so in that sense I think it would work really nicely ... I'm sort of transitioning out of black, but its my leather-goods (a few purses and riding boots that were bigger investments) that are left in black. Good point about the trim ... hmmm ... sadly there are no other color options except vanilla, which would be even more jarring and looks quite summery. Although I need this, it's not something I'll use often where I can justify multiples, so I want something fairly all-purpose.

I grow tired of logos quickly, so that would probably be a deal breaker for me, however, I love the colors! If most of your shoes/boots are brown it would be nice to have at least a touch of that color in the bag...are there other "free" or more options to come?

Carole, thank you. I think since you've both agreed with me on the logo being a possible issue, I'll leave it on that basis. Re: the brown - I don't have any really; I've been contemplating a transition from black to brown as I move towards more navy for clothes, as I think this looks quite sophisticated - but am a bit stuck due to some investment pieces in black ... perhaps a new thread; how to transition your base color when you've invested!! Thanks ladies, appreciate your feedback

I am usually put off by most of the logo bags but this looks like "pattern" as previously mentioned and the little hangy thing can be removed. Very versatile bag IMO.

How about the stiffness of it. I bought the identical style in navy and find it kind of stiff so I keep reaching for my old bag.

I found almost the exact same purse in a consignment store and it somehow fell into my buggy. Mine does't have the trim around the top of the bag, though.

Maybe I'm not as picky, but I haven't noticed too much of problem wearing it with black. And I normally stay away from patterns, but this one is ok with me.

The logos would be deal breakers for me. As to your transition from black to navy, perhaps you would find medium gray a good option for shoes and bags. In my experience, the gray is great with black and navy.

Is there a version without the logos? I don't really like logos myself - I think these ones are rather subtle.

The bag reminds me of an LV Neverfull though Those usually have a SMACK of logos on them.

I am not a fan of logos but I AM a fan of this bag. I have it in a silver metallic and it has been a workhorse for me. Nothing gets lost because the lining is light colored (check yours, maybe since it is a dark color the lining might be similar to the outside color). You can remove the little fob thingy so it is less MK-y. If it is the same as mine it is the perfect size for carrying a good amount of stuff but not TOO much.

Such great feedback everyone, thank you so much! Interesting to get everyone's input on logos; I live in the burbs and it's logo-ville here; I don't mind a little advertising but it needs to be in VERY small doses. I did think this was rather subtle though, but I think I will go with the majority and let it go. I do love the look and shape so will keep an eye out for similar in a different color, perhaps Eliza's gray. Thanks Eliza for that suggestion - that's a good one as yes, it does work nicely with both my blacks and navies.

If you like the bag itself, I think they make this same bag (shape, style) in various colors. I found mine on clearance at Nordstrom a while back. I also saw a similar one (same style, different color) at TJMaxx.

I think if you keep your eyes open you can get the MK tote, minus the logos, for a good deal.

And yes YLF is awesome!
