Quality and knits

Patience

Angie's post about knits got me thinking. How many times would you say you usually wear a piece of knitwear or a knit before it's a goner? How many washes? Or at least, how many should you expect to get? I guess it seems like so few to me.

In general, knits last me ONE season. Some actual sweaters last longer, but tees etc, don't last long at all. Most of my knit dresses just last one year before they get all pilly and faded. I never dry my clothes, we air dry everything.

I also usually replace my cotton knits after a season unless they haven't seen enough wear to look worn. All the whites and blacks definitely get replaced. I replace silk knits and blends and wools when they look worn. They may last 2 or even 3 years depending on how often they are worn.

What type of knit? Knit top or knitwear? I am down to ONE knit top in my wardrobe and you know I do not wear T's. But I do have lots of knitwear.

I air dry them all or dry clean for those that say so on the label. Some last one or two wears literally and I return those. Otherwise, dresses last a long while and tops usually one or two seasons.

I wash (in a machine, and with a dryer) my knit tops after every time I wear them, and I would say I consider them good if they last about 20 wears. I generally try not to spend more than $10 on a knit shirt, so if they make it through 20 wears that comes out to $0.50 per wear, which isn't bad. I'm upset if I'm spending $1 or more per wear for almost any item of clothing, and thrilled if I'm spending $0.25 or less per wear.

Both, Angie. Although for the summer I guess I'm more interested in knit.

In one season, how often do you wear these items? Once a week? More often, less often?

Umm I'm not sure the difference between a knit top and knit wear but any knits I have last me one season. Then they either pill, fade, or both. I delicate machine wash and line dry but it does not seem to help with longevity. I wear them 2 times before washing.

Hmmm, my knits usually last for years. I'm not sure why. I also wash them on delicate and air dry, so it's not like I'm doing something too special on that front. Maybe I just don't wear them that often?

Most of my knit tops last around two or three seasons, but I have had knit tops which fell apart after ten washes. The worst thing is that these are often from the same companies so I can't even discriminate against one brand for poor quality, just poor consistency.
