Quick Q1 wrap-up. I didn't commit to a specific slow-shop goal, but I am trying to be extra PPP (patient, picky, practical) this year. My purchases have averaged out to one gear purchase and one "fashion" purchase per month, and I did a small basics refresh in January (3 pairs of underwear and a bralette, which I'll try to remember to review at some point). My gear purchases have been "bigger" than my street-clothes additions, which does reflect the amount of wear they get. I added a great pair of ski bibs (such a cool print!) and a pair of insulated hiking boots (to replace a pair from a couple years ago that just wasn't warm enough). I also picked up a pair of barefoot style canvas sneakers on super sale as a direct replacement for a pair I've worn into the ground.
Now for the fun stuff! To combat late-winter shoe boredom, I sprang for these fleecy, water-resistant Vans hi-tops. The olive/white combo is super versatile for me, and I get lots of compliments on them (from kids and teens especially, lol). In anticipation of spring, I added a cotton sweater from Everlane (perfect layering piece, love the colour) and a deeply discounted modal jersey jumpsuit in a yummy plum colour. I'm thinking of the jumpsuit as an experiment: I love the cut and colour, and if I reach for it enough this summer, I might be able to justify looking for something similar in a woven fabrication.
April may end up being a bigger month. I've already added a cropped raw silk tank that matches a raw silk skirt I added last summer. Very excited to wear the two together as a two-piece dress, and the top works well with other skirts and high-rise pants as well. (Both the tank top and the jumpsuit have reversible necklines, V to scoop -- genius). Can't wait 'til it's warm enough for sleeveless!
I really want to add one or two pairs of loose-fitting chinos (I have a great pair of olive chinos from two years ago, and I'm worried the knees will give out before I find a substitute), and recently placed an order for the Alex Mill pants in a couple of different sizes. On the "gear" front, I'd really like to add a new swimsuit and retire my oldest one, and I desperately need a new pair of pool sandals, since I lost my old flip-flops at the pool a couple months ago. Boo. I should probably add a pair of flat, casual sandals as well, since all of mine are at least a couple seasons old.
I have a feeling that even if I add a few extra items in April, it will even out in the end, as I don't tend to shop much between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
