Are the Burberry belts so iconic because of the pattern?

I have come across in my recent travels, a very beautifully constructed vintage Burberry belt. It is embossed with the logo in a subtle way, and is stamped on the interior surface. It is a beautiful cognac colour, and has a braided pattern in the leather.

That being said, it doesn't have the "Burberry plaid" anywhere.

I'm not sure if I'm comfortable wearing something that screamed, "HI! I AM A VERY EXPENSIVE BELT!" at work - especially since I do work with people of a lower SES a lot, and I find that people who wear jeans with ARMANI in gold glitter across the bum to be lacking taste. :p

Should I hold out for a Burberry plaid belt that is subtle enough for my comfort level? I may acquire this belt regardless, just because it is so pretty. And the construction ... *drool* *pet*

Well, that's a tricky situation and I too have come across such a thought where I was in love with something but not sure If I will be able to do justice to it...I would say you should go for the one that's high on your comfort level and which you think you will be wearing more often and please don't decide on what others might say or think about your choice because you have a very good taste...don't compromise on that for others!
And....my vote goes to that beautiful non plaid..cognac belt!

I'd snap up a vintage Burberry belt in a heartbeat because that is, to my mind, THE iconic Burberry. The check that everyone associates with Burberry was their lining fabric. Except for the occasional scarf or umbrella, I can't remember ever seeing it much until the check became ubiquitous in the late '90 with the footballers and the chavs, especially in cheap knock-off versions.That association has stuck with me so the Burberry check accessories definitely don't seem very iconic to me--more downmarket like the wearing of ARMANI in gold glitter on your butt.

I agree with Gaylene - snap it, but only if it sings to you. But, the fact it is - or is not Burberry - is something that's in my view irrelevant, unless you plan to maybe resell it at some point in which case it may have extra value.

I don't mind logo items but I'm not a huge fan of advertising for free (I'm not going to be the gal with the logo hat, bag, belt and shoes walking down the street, that's too much for me). No matter the brand or the price, is it an item you will use often? If it wasn't "so and so" brand and you would still wear it, I vote go for it.

Oh, I'd totally buy the belt (because I love beautiful leather products) even if it wasn't Burberry. I generally don't wear anything with big logos!

I love it, and it's the perfect size for me. 27". It's so hard to find a 27" belt. *dreamy sigh*
