q: fit of BR Martin skinny pant?

OK so I think you have all persuaded me to try out these BR Martin skinny pants. Since I'll have to get them delivered to Australia (duh!) I thought I'd check with all you EXPERTS about the fit - I would hate to order the wrong size!!!

Firstly the fit - are they true to size?? I have a pair of size 10 BR trouser jeans that are fairly snug in the waist. Should I go with 10s still do you think?

And the inseam - do you think the 33" quoted on the website is accurate? If it was 32" it would be too short for me. It comes in tall sizes, but I'd have to get heaps chopped off. If the 33 is correct they would be pretty perfect though I think.

tam - I bought a size 10 for myself and still need to get the waist taken in. I have larger thighs and did NOT want them to be too tight, so I sized for my thighs, not my waist. My inseam is unaltered and it is between 32.5" and 32.75".

I am 5'5" and not very long in the leg, so mine also need to be shortened if I hope to wear with 2" heels and not too much scrunch.

I have a size 8 in the Jackson(?) cuffed trouser and that fits me fine without alterations.

Tam, pre-weight loss I probably needed a 4. This was when I was more appley. I got a 2 instead, anticipating I would be losing weight. The 2's fit well now. I am still a little bit appley but mostly hourglass. The waistband is neither too big nor too tight. It was definitely tight before though, when I was more apple than hourglass. Does that make sense? They are slim through the thigh and leg, so I wouldn't worry too much about them being baggy if you have to size up for the waist. They really don't grow or stretch much in my experience. As long as you clean them properly, they shouldn't shrink or stretch.

For reference, my Club Monaco pants, which I know you also have, are also a 2 but fit me much better than these at the time (now they are too big). I would say the BR pants run one size smaller.

Thanks MNsara - I guess we are different body types, because I always worry about my waist, never my thighs!!! The inseam worries me a tad though - that'd mean they would work for ballet flats only for me (or tucked into boots). But who am I kidding, that's what I wear 99% of the time anyway!!!

OK Maya my brain is addled by just getting back from work, and having developed yet another cold this winter (grrr!!!) Sitting here sneezing my head off as I type. So you think I should go a 12? Or stick with 10 and hope they're stretchy enough?? My CM pants are also a 10. Only 12 pants I have are my H&M skinnies.

I think you would need a 12 Tam. It's okay if these aren't quite as skin tight at the thigh as denim skinnies, since they are professional wear and not jeans. I would guess a 12 will fit you better at the waist. However, I'm always afraid to give sizing advice to overseas people because I will feel bad if they don't work out and you had to pay all those shipping fees...

I know Tanya and Angie both have these pants so hopefully they will weigh in, but they are not even remotely apple-ish. I think both of them had to have the waistband taken in.

You could try contacting their Customer Service and asking for the specifications for the size 10 & size 12 waist measurement. This is more accurate than depending on sizing charts.

When laid flat, my size 10s are approx. 17 inches across the middle of the waistband (so 34 inches total). They are not particularly stretchy as there is some kind of stabilizing material/stitching inside the waistband.

I am hoping to get shopping yet today and will probably be near a BR. I could get them to measure the size 12. (but that's also hoping I remember -- I am so easily distracted when shopping

I think you should get the tall inseam, Tam. I tried a pair of BR trousers (not the Martin but similar) and the "33 inch inseam" was really cutting it close -- too short for my liking. I think they were shorter than 33 inches. I think you're safer ordering the tall and getting them altered.

I find them TTS too. Mine are size 0, fit well ( on a snugger side) and most of my jeans at the moment are 26. The inseam on the regular size is indeed 33" ( i measured it just now) and the seam has about an inch of the extra material that could be let out.

yublocka - If you are going to pay a tailor to let out pants, then ordering the tall and having them shortened would give you more leg to play with. . . as long as the Tall doesn't mean they change the rise or anything else.

MNsara great idea about contacting customer service! I've done just that - lets see how it goes. All this sizing stuff can be quite confusing!!! If size 10s are 34 inches across that seems strange - I take 30 jeans normally. Is that stretching the elastic out??

Marianna do you mean the pants that you tried were described as 33" but fell short? That's a worry! We are both 5"10 aren't we? I worry that tall sizes might fit funny everywhere else though. I've asked customer service to try and answer that - we'll see how it goes!!

Thanks Tanya, you are always size 0 in pants then I imagine? If 0s are 33inches, maybe bigger sizes will be a touch longer? (hopefully!!)

That's what I meant, Tam. I am 5'10" and usually a 33" inseam is good for skinnies, but these ones fell short. They weren't the Martin though.... so maybe my advice is irrelevant.
