How do you start putting together an outfit, especially shopping your closet? weather and time of year are first considerations, of course. Do you start with special footwear, a fav top that you are just dying to wear or ? For me it is easier for a special occasion like semi formal, a funeral or some specific event where we may have a limited number of pieces to choose from. Many times I just want to look especially good like meeting an old friend for lunch that I haven't seen in a while or something.
Recently while cleaning out closet I found last years fav pumps in photo. I am going to two events in the next week-day time events that are dressy. Ok start with the shoes-then what-so have black sweater dress 3 yrs or so old. not worn for a while as no place to wear it..OK, shoes are taupey beige and black-in drawer have a taupey beige scarf-OK shoes , dress and scarf-looking good-black tights if it is cold, black sheers if not so cold-or? drapey beige cardi if not cold, white fur jacket if it is clod..Rain? no decent raincoat as it hasn't rained in 3 years here-but is raining this year..
Now other event -same shoes-black trousers, beige silkey blouse, vintage pearls-and beige cardi as above-or new olive dapey front blazer?
Anyhow making decisions is easier as I started with the pumps and just had to find things to fit the occasions and work well with the shoes. Otherwise I would be rummaging thru closet, pulling out trying on, opening drawers, etc. and then after the try ons, leaving a big mess on the bed to put away, and leaving maybe not feeling so great about outfits.
