Putting it into practice -recent wiws

I much preferred the second look, although the first one was fine. I have a soft spot for the crazy silk printed bomber and will never get rid of it. It comes in handy in the most unexpected ways. The new longer jeans make me feel so much more "elegant" and put together than the barrels, which do have their place but are no longer my favourites. Sometimes trendiness isn't always the answer .

Great outfits. I have an almost identical coat from Cos. I like both jeans and I love the brown flats and bag. I use the Cos coat as my trench coat from my list of essentials. Well done you are so focused you see a problem make a plan and begin the plan straight away. Keep going I can’t wait to see your journey as you progress the plan.

I really like your use of chocolate brown as a dark neutral, and the new necklace is to die for -- absolutely worth building your color palette around.

Strikes me as an extremely important data point. Sounds like the jacket is really a hero piece in a way that transcends trends (unlike, say, barrel jeans which you are tiring of...). That speaks to your "fashion-forward" style word, which I actually thought was right on the money, in the sense that fashion-forward can sometimes be about trends (which you are *sometimes* interested in) and sometimes about transcending trends (e.g., avant garde items...I'm not sure if the bomber exactly qualifies as avant garde but it does seem to have that trend-transcending quality).

I see your new palette in the bomber's print, too.

That silk bomber jacket is da bomb, no way I'd get rid of it either. You've done well with incorporating your colour palette and accessories, love the refined footwear and your Fish pendant is a wonderful colour accent. How do you feel about a half tuck or a belt with the longer jeans?

I think both outfits are good - I love the printed jacket - and I agree the second is better: it definitely captures the elegant, modern, and sophisticated vibe you’re going for. Old Navy jeans are really good, aren’t they?

Dee : if I had a different /*better* body I’d tuck tops into bottoms but I get a very poochy effect when I do . I am quite short waisted and not thin anymore and it’s not a good look . Plus , this top has side slits and a finished bottom which allows it ti sit nicely overtop jeans .

Outfit #1 is KILLER and I love it, LJP! That's the prettiest bomber I've seen. Dead right to keep it forever. You suit a semi-tuck soooo well! Fantastically executed in pic 2.

I fully get how wide bottoms make you feel more elegant! I bat for that team too. I'll extend the theory to wide skirts and dresses. There is something about that swoosh that is magical! Hence I can't do fitted dresses and skirts. Love my barrels and relaxed boyfriend-y straights! Although my heart is with wide legs and wide crops.

Loving the new wide jeans, and especially their length! You DO look elegant in them! Good old Old Navy! Very pretty flats, and smashing playful fish necklace.

That's a fabulous bomber, Lisa. I am glad you did not get rid of it. Just a great jacket and you wear it well.

Love the semi-tuck with the barrel jeans.

I am wearing my own Old Navy jeans as I type -- mine are acid wash wide legs from 3 years ago, super comfy and nice in spring and summer, especially.

I am very excited about your decision to try to wear more blazers. You look amazing in a blazer and I miss seeing them!! I really want a blazer return myself, but I need to find shorter versions than the ones that are still trending. As soon as those show up at retail, I'm making some purchases. I always feel happy and myself in a blazer and great jeans combo. Just enough casual/ tough and just enough crisp/ sharp.

The bomber is fantastic but I am more intrigued by the second outfit, which made you feel more elegant. Love the blue beads against the brown (and counts toward fashion forward perhaps), and the brown flats are also very of the moment. I would have never have thought rooster hair but look forward to your next color/cut combo and how it plays into your style.

Beautiful bomber, a piece to always keep, it's lovely on you! The second outfit is superb, the necklace really stands out as the star in this outfit. That's such a fun piece! I also really like the lighter wash jeans paired with the brown, a lovely combination on you and the fit here is very elegant. Bravo!

I especially love the floral bomber, and it’s funny, yesterday morning (before it warmed up enough to need only short sleeves), I wore a short floral bomber that I’ve had for probably close to 15 years. I will keep it as long as it stays in one piece! Somehow it still feels modern to me.

I also love the necklace for you. Great color!

Great insights! I love the ON jeans. I am askeert to use the term “ classic” lest it be too boring, but the FIT , including length, has elegance, to my eye. That doesn’t mean that an outfit as a whole can’t be fashion-forward, nor that some other styles of pants that you also like might be more notably fashion-forward , but just a good thing to note, that these jeans provide you with a necessary element.
So, haha, my fave jeans this past year or so are also ON! In addition, they are more trendy for ME ( and my environmental norm) because they are somewhat wide—the ON OG loose. I could really use a slightly slimmer straight style as well because my target IS to look a bit more “ timeless” and I don’t want a large jeans capsule, so want to look for that ( but SO many jeans to try on). Mine are in about the same wash as yours though I was planning to buy a dark wash— for some unknown reason, the fits were different in different washes( I know fabric content could be different, but it was still weird). I found the lighter blue to be unexpectedly useful in winter as I wear browns but more taupey shades- important because it’s too hot for jeans here in summer.

I’ve tried numerous barrels and have given that style the ix-nay, also all wide crops. I do wear ankle- length if straight or a very slight taper, or BF if not low-rise. I think related to a combination of torso & leg length plus I can’t routinely wear low- profile/ pointy/ dainty footwear anymore for everyday occasions , and do not like the look of my lace-up sporty shoes with wide crops.

So- you are on to something to try to see how your outfits hit your target look, and which elements of it do that, and what items- tops, bottoms, toppers- are hardest to “ get it” vs easier. I sometimes find I have finally put an “ ideal” outfit together but it seemed so HARD—so partly a sign that some wardrobe items are not closely enough aligned with this in-my-head goal that they are not versatile enough to work easily—like maybe the planets have to align for the right weather and occasion for a particular combination that lets the shirt work, or the pants, or whatever.

These outfits seem to be so cohesive, I really like to see them on you!
You have some great workhorses here like the barrels, the new jeans, the tee, the car-coat, the ballet flats, the cross body bag. Also the bomber and the beads are some statement pieces which will empower any outfit -and all seems so efortless when you stick to your new color palette and the fashion words you chosed. You look six feet tall in the ON jeans; they create a great line. I agree, the barrels have their place but are more casual; great for a day of lounging around or simply enjoying life outside.
As Carla said, the hair style you chose is the perfect topper. It will take some time and a stylist who is with you but will be well worth it in the end. It will either need a tweak or be the cat's pajamas, nothing to loose.
With the support of your edited pieces you will enjoy every day of this journey.

Thank you, Joyce, for your always thoughtful comments. I didn't *see* a leg-lengthening effect from the ON jeans, but that's probably and precisely why they made me feel more *elegant*. I'm apparently shrinking, and any additional height I can get the illusion of, the better.

umfrumped - you and I are always on the same page :). And yes, when pieces aren't representing or aligning with the style goal, the outfit won't feel right .

And thank you all for the bomber love - I actually bought this jacket in another colour way too - in a gorgeous solid chartreuse silk, and for some reason I can't remember, I don't own it anymore. That's the first time I've ever duplicated anything at that price level and I'm not sorry I did.

I'm tempted to see if the ON jeans come in a darker wash for fall.....
