Putting away winter clothes

Good information! I was just looking in my closet, adding up the potential dry cleaning costs to put my winter woolens away. Yikes! Even though it's still wintery here, I'll start to retire a few pieces a week to lessen the $ pain.

Good link. I'm just starting to work on getting my wintery stuff cleaned. Started with sweaters, coats are next, boots last since we'll still get wear out of those until like May I don't usually put winter stuff "away" but I think for the first time I'm going to put my cashmere away somewhere (at least the heavier stuff). I do need to get some cedar for them though.

Timely. I have a couple of EF jackets that I have barely worn, so I was wondering if I should wash them before putting them away. I should and I will.

I agree with the advice to dry clean now rather than at the start of the season. I keep things in the dry cleaner's plastic bag. They fold sweaters over the middle with tissue, and I don't have a lot of humidity so the plastic bags are generally better than storing everything in a plastic storage bin. The storage bins are ok, I haven't noticed moths forming. But they can inspire a musty odor, so that everything needs to be washed, dry cleaned or at a minimum, aired out when removing after a period of storage. Even if the garments are put in the box perfectly cleaned.

AS is starts to warm up, I begin to put winter clothing aside as I do the wash, that way there isn't a big project when the time comes. Most things get washed and put in the cedar closet, I wash my wool/cashmere and store.
North Face and any winter coats that are washable gets washed, but I like wait until as long as I can, because the cold can come back as soon as the NF jacket gets washed for the season ☺
