Last summer I enjoyed purple highlights for a few months. Yesterday I had them added again but I think they need improvement and I need your advice please. My stylists had been touching up my roots with a medium brown (a bit lighter than my natural hair color) at my request because I read that dark hair is harsh on us women of a “certain age.” I went pretty subtle with the highlighted strands to start with and knew I’ll be adding more soon.

Before I had a good look outside with a mirror, my DH studied them and declared them ok. Then he gave me a detailed analysis (he’s usually pretty reserved!): That I need to darken my hair all over instead of having the medium brown half-way down. That the purple will look brighter, shinier, silkier and more like “beautiful iridescent pigeon feathers” with the darker color next to it. I was speechless at his immediate assessment of the color and laughing out loud. In his defense, he used to raise pigeons as a teen.

I made another appointment with my trusted stylist tomorrow. What do you see in the color? How can it be improved? are there any terms that will help me describe effect to her? Where should she add more purple, on top, middle, under? (right now it’s mostly under). The first two photos are with natural light from a window, the other two, with overhead fluorescent, with different exposures.

Thank you in advance!
