Like many, I really liked the third outfit in the yesterday's blog post (photo #1). Color-wise, it is an inverted version of a L'Agence outfit (photo #2) I recently spotted and saved. I am fascinated by the LA outfit and spent quite a bit of time analyzing it on many levels (link to the original photo with many close-ups: https://www.saksfifthavenue.co.....45451.html). It is a classic equestrian outfit - turtleneck & skinny pants tucked into tall boots with plaid jacket, in a more unusual color scheme - the top and pants are bright, mid purple ( not sure if amethyst is the correct name of the tone, or if I am using the term "tone" correctly), and then the plaid jacket is in shades of brown with a bit of the same bright purple in the plaid. The reasons I find it so fascinating are:

  • I love, love everything about this outfit
  • This is a tone of purple I quite like and I don't have a lot of (used to), and it seems to be available again in retail
  • I have several patterned blazers with the same tone of purple in them, in the Finds are a checked one (black, brown and purple) and brocade one - black with several shades of purple
  • I also own tall black and brown boots (in Finds), so the only items missing to replicate several versions of the LA outfit are turtleneck & pants
  • In my wardrobe there are several random printed items, with a bit of this purple in them, like the Mango skirt in the Finds -potential for many other, non-equestrian outfits
  • A rare solid item I already have is an old cashmere sweater (in Finds), which is good condition, but very fitted on me now so I am only comfortable wearing it layered under a jacket, not on its own

As you can imagine, I am seriously considering building a small capsule of solid items in this color. It would expand my wardrobe options (for combos with both brown or black), make me happy, and since the pieces I am thinking of are pretty classic, should have some good longevity in my closet.

I have tracked down the original turtleneck and velvet jeans to LA site (photos #3&4). The color is also prominent in their holiday look book (photo #5), so more items should be arriving. The second row of solid tops are currently available at Elie Tahari.

I am thinking of, at minumum, the velvet jeans, a turtleneck, and some woven top (quite like the one in photo #5, which appears to have small tigers/big cats in the print - another huge plus in my book). The velvet jeans would also go with my brocade blazer to form my holiday outfit this season (if there is even a chance to wear one). The issue is that all the items are from pretty pricey brands, so the only way my budget could handle this is to stalk them during the holiday sales (something I tend to be good at). Curious what your thoughts on this idea might be. It would likely be doable with lot of stalking, careful planning and some luck with the sales.
