purging- 3 bags for fretex

today I just filled 1 bag with clothes, 1 bag with shoes (11 pairs) and a half bag of purses. cannot believe how good it felt to get rid of some of these shoes. I wonder if they are 'harder' to part with. They cost more per item than clothes, or my clothes do, and they are meant to last....so I kept thinking maybe they will come back into fashion or maybe I will like them again....anyone else struggle parting with certain types?

For you purse lovers, do purses get purged? and jewelry?

I purged loads of bags just last weekend, it helped to look at each one and decide why I didn't use it I now have a clearer idea of what I want in an ideal bag which will hopefully help future purchases. I did the same thing with shoes last year (50!! Unworn pairs) X

I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a purse, shoe or jewelry lover. They all mount up,
though and I do purge all 3 categories.

I am guilty on all 3 counts. I need to purge shoes, but have a real hard time doing it for the reasons you state. I tend to use one bag at a time and usually until it's no longer useable (but I admit I have a collection of broken bags that I need to discard, but keep thinking I might be able to have them repaired) I need to purge some jewelry and might post them ala Bella's giveaways. I'd much rather someone get use from them and I just don't have the energy to deal with ebay.

hee hee, the consignment store just called me about some boots I'd put up for sale there. It was VERY hard to part with them. They were in fine shape, minus a cat scratch right across the left toe. I'd worn them maybe 20 hours total in over 8 years, so I knew they needed to go. But it took me all these years to finally let go. Yes, it is freeing, and yes, it is hard! (sadly, I will only get 40% of $17 for them but it's better than staring at them for 8 more years)

It's very hard for me to part with bags, especially since I started buying nicer ones. Especially the ones I still love, despite being pretty big. They haven't sold several times over on Ebay, but I still have them. :T

Good for you! I have a hard time parting with the big ticket items, like certain purses. I also have a hard time getting rid of the home sewn clothes. There's a two-part issue there...it's hard to get rid of something I worked hard on AND I know they sometimes languish at thrift shops because they don't bear a designer/brand name, despite being nicely made, etc.

Fascinating stuff this. thanks for the replies. I recognized from many of you the difficulty of some items, and price does make it harder. Like since it cost more it SHOULD get to stay...but once in the bag...yes Angie, the liberation.

Most of the stuff for this purge was things bought with 'I should have that' in my head rather than 'that is ME". And when I happened into a shop today after...I remembered those bags and was able to be much more critical of my potential purchases! Thanks! all of you!

I need to do the Louise suggestion now....figure out if there are other main reasons these things are going....

I agree that it's hard to let some things go. It always feels great to get rid of it, though.

It's hard for me to part with things, period. But I do it anyways. Every few months I purge a bag or two worth of stuff, all categories. It feels good but I always worry that I have given away something in error. Because I get a little carried away and over-purge, when I do it every few months.
