Purchasing for a neglected part of my wardrobe

I spend quite some time lately in my pajamas, so I thought I should start to build up a decent lounge wear capsule. I bought this navy jersey dress yesterday for this reason. I thought I could wear it over leggings or on it's own, and with different tees layered under it. Or with a cardi over it. What do you think?

Thinking about this further, I need to work harder on lounge wear, and I may steal this entire concept. With teen sons and their friends in my house, I have to be covered up for modesty. Mostly my gym clothes do double duty as around the house wear, but my actual pjs are just as frumpy, if not more.

Cute dress! I bought one just like it at Target yesterday- same color, style, everything. I like your ideas for wearing it over leggings, and I was thinking of layering mine over tees and under cardis, too. But as others have said, I have plans to wear this baby out and about. I'm on the look out for a bright belt (maybe in orange or yellow), a chunky beaded necklace, and some cute sandals to create the perfect spring/summer look.

Looks cute and comfy. A nice step up from pjs or sweats. You could definitely be seen out and about in this look. I definitely resounded with the idea that we spend more time in our loungewear so why don't we spend more $ on it.

Great thread, Astrid! I'm in the process of upping the style quotient of what I wear at home! Today I'm wearing a knit dress layered over a long sleeve t and leggings. Comfy as jammies, but much more presentable.

You look great in your dress. I think you could use a knit wrap dress the same way.

Perfect! I wore jersey dresses like this a lot when staying in the house in FL. Throw on flats and you can run errands, then kick them off and curl right up on the couch!

Cute! I agree we should invest more care into our loungewear. The people closest to us are the ones who will enjoy - or not enjoy at all - seeing it daily, after all! (That includes ourselves, of course.)

Astrid, what a fantastic idea for loungewear that's both comfy as well as pretty and not run-of-the-mill, boring or gear-ish. LOVE the dress. You look positively adorable in it, and I love how well that muted navy foregrounds your brilliant, fiery hair and compliments your lovely complexion.

Sure, it may be 'good enough' to wear out, but that's precisely the level we should aim for wearing around the house too I think, especially those of us who spend a lot of time around the house.

Actually, I was just watching a period drama series the other day (Downton Abbey, not Mad Men :-D) and realized that people who could afford to or were constrained to staying at home most of the time rather than going out, seemed to often be dressed up to be 'going out' in their own houses! It seems a novel idea now, and was considered old-fashioned at one time I daresay, explaining this category of 'loungewear' that was certainly unheard of in my childhood (at least in these parts) --- but visiting with my mother and her sisters recently, I was also reminded that that generation still makes little distinction between clothes for 'outside' and 'inside'. Sort of in the same way that they are universally soft-spoken (no distinction of indoor and outdoor voices), they wear the same garments in possibly softer, more absorbent, at best slightly faded fabrics, with fewer accessories, when at home.

I like that your outfit seems to be bridging the divide between at-home gear and suitable-for-errands clothes.

Thanks Kelly! I didn't really have lounge wear before, I mostly wore either pajamas or repurposed my gym clothes. This is definitely better!
