Here is my edition of cycling (or scootering) style. I don't ride a bike on my own so the most important component of cycling style for me is a partner who is a competent bike handler. When riding, I always wear a helmet. In this photo, I am wearing a leather jacket which is handy for blocking out the cold in the fall. Any time I am going out on the road I like to wear sturdy stable shoes that can't fall off and don't expose my feet to the elements or the pavement in case of any incidents.

I don't actually know how to ride a bike. I am terrified of climbing over the top tube of an adult sized bike. I see that Public makes step in bikes for short people, so if I win this contest I would like to try to learn on one of these. Modgirl, all you need to do is stand on one leg for a split second to get your leg over the top of the cross bar...but the step-through style would be a good compromise...if you are petite then getting the right SIZE of bike is super important too....bikes typically come in a variety of sizes.

Or you just don't buy a mans bicycle. You are a woman after all.. I can't believe this picture (1) that goes with the competition. A skirt like that is highly impractial on a mens bike. You will be fighting your skirt while mounting it!
Picture 2 shows a ladies' bike (actually an omafiets) and picture 3 a ladies bike with seats for 2 children. Front seat can carry a child from the moment it can sit upright for enough time untill it is about 15 kg (about 33 pound), backseat can carry a heavier and larger child.
Picture 4 and 5 show a dress clip: an accesory that you can use to clip your skirt together so the wind doesn't blow it in all directions. Both for modesty and safety reason as well as to protect your dress: it is not fun when your dress or skirt gets cought in the back wheel or the back break (many are located just under the seat): your break doesn't work very well and your skirt gets stained or even damaged.

I'm glad you enjoy the info, Angie, I was starting to think maybe it was getting a bit too much. I just enjoy sharing our biking culture By the way, those clips are a recent innovation, I haven't got one and don't think I will own one: a clothes peg will work just as well. We also have things called 'coat protectors' on cycles, to protect coats and dresses from getting caught in the back weel (and also childrens feet! Makes nasty leg injuries when people just pop their child on the carrier without a seat or some protection from the weel and the leg gets caught!)

Rita, you look so city-cool on the scooter and I felt like I was looking at a scooter ad! I'm on the shorter side, too, and there are so many options today that PUBLIC and other bike companies offer for every size. Once you're on and pedaling, it's an exhilarating feeling!

Rita - you're adorable! Heleen - this is quite informative. My sister got her feet caught in the spokes riding on my other sister's bike when we were young, and it was quite nasty - I never would have dreamed up these sorts of ideas for making biking even more easy.

I agree - I like to hear about all the practical biking accoutrements that are available. Here in the US the emphasis is more on the "sport" style of cycling, which I think turns a lot of people off from it because it makes cycling seem intimidating!
