PTL: DD's boyfriend broke up with her.

I feel bad for being so elated but I'm thrilled and can hardly contain it. I already offered to buy her a break up gift. I have a feeling this is probably the wrong thing to do but I can't help myself. I think she will cry her way to Brandy Melville and then hopefully be fine. Wish us luck.

I miss the days when you could hand them a Cheerio, and they'd play with it like a toy for a hour.

Oh, speaking from experience, this is a time to do all you can to hold it inside; you can dance around a bit in private, but your public face needs to be totally noncommittal if her heart is broken. Teenage hearts (boys, as well as girls) are very sensitive and it's hard to know which way things will go. A break up gift just be a tad early in the process--especially if there is still hope in her heart that it might not be a permanent split.

@Gaylene: Arrggh! I'm trying to hold it in. Really. Hard. She's super sensitive. Thing is, she was ready to break up with him during the summer--now, not so much. Fickle girl. Oh well. Thanks for the great advice. Fingers crossed it is permanent.

I can remember times walking around with everything crossed, even my eyes, in hope that it was finished, but you walk on dangerous ground if you let them sense you are over the moon with the news. Time to pull out your acting chops, mom!

This is honestly one of the funniest threads I've read in a long time... :). I'm not a parent, so this is a really unique view I'm getting here. I'm thinking back to all of my break ups and my mom's "There, there"'s ... If I know my mom, she was dancing with glee in private for sure!!!! Haha!

How old is DD? And why didn't *we* like the bf?

My friend's son had a girlfriend who made him a paper chain calendar for college - to count the days down when they'd be reunited at the holidays. It was ghastly and my friend was even ghastlier about it. Lol.

@Krista: Glad that I could enlighten you on what some moms really think I agree, everyone here is such a good sport.
@rachylou: DD just turned 15. It's not that we didn't like him. I actually think he's a nice boy for some one else's daughter. I'd rather her play the field and hang out with lots of friends--not just this one. She plays field hockey and soccer and gets excellent grades--I didn't want a boy getting in the way of those things. Woohoo, Single!

I think I would have barfed if someone made me a paper chain--lol! I'm pretty sure I would like your friend too

At least you didn't actively try to break them up, like my parents did when I was in high school. My parents sent me to California to get me away from my boyfriend, who was 12 years older than me. (I know, I know, but I was MATURE for my age!). I was so mad at them I refused to talk to them or even give them my phone number for several weeks. Though I met DH at college there so I suppose it worked out in the end.
Here's hoping your DD's heart mends quickly!

@Natalie: Lol! That's pretty funny--I fully support your parents on that move So funny! Glad things worked out--you might have had four kids in diapers now if they hadn't sent you to CA (bada bing.) You have three, right?

The dummy BF broke up with her at lunch so she had to suffer through the rest of school. Her feelings were hurt, I'm sure. DD#2 says that she has been crying at night because he's been mean/ignoring her for the last week--probably thinking how is the best way to break up. Anyway, he should have waited until the end of school or Friday and sucked it up. I'm sending some bad juju his way until end of school today. After that he can be some other Mom's problem

At least the breakup was face to face and not via text message or a FaceBook change in status. Sounds like this was the first big BF?

I hear you on this one! My son had a demanding drama queen of a girlfriend for 1 1/2 years in high school. She made his life increasingly miserable over the course of their relationship, and I was SO happy when he finally pulled the plug on the romance after his first semester in college.

I never voiced an ounce of concern while they were together...and for that I feel proud. As a parent, it's so tough to watch these things from the sidelines, but experience is the best teacher IMHO.
