If you are looking for a velvet blazer in petite sizing, you might be interested in this one I found online at Macys. The largest petite sizes from Boden, JCrew and even sometimes Banana Republic are just a bit too small for me, but the Macys' store brands come in slightly larger sizes. INC is one of the Macy's store brands, with what I find to be quite acceptable quality given the relatively low prices.

I ordered this in hunter forest and port, to see which color I like better. I'll review it once it arrives.

It also comes in black and purple. The price has dropped since I ordered it two days ago and Macy's does price adjustments so I'll be requesting one. FYI the form you fill out is not easy to find on their web site, but if you do a search on "price adjustment" it pops right up.

The blazer arrived today in burgundy and hunter green. Big disappointment. It is sized for the 5’4” or petite, not for me at 5’1”. With the right shoulder sizing, the waist button placement is just a little too low and pulls when buttoned because it’s sitting a few inches below my waist where I'm wider. Also the overall length is too long to be flattering.

For comparison, here is the black one I bought last year which
is a different Macys brand and fits perfectly.

So, back to the hunt for a classic velvet petite blazer in burgundy
or dark green. Boden and Jcrew have nice ones but their petite sizing is too small for me. Also checked out Express, Lord & Taylor, Macys, Chadwick’s of Boston (online retailer with very classic styles), Dillard's, Amazon, Nordstrom, Talbots….all have either nothing in a simple design or only black which I already have, or colors I don’t want.

I think I need to come up with a plan B for my holiday capsule. I have quite a few good pieces but wanted something new to pull things together. Not exactly the biggest crisis on the planet

I'll take some photos later or tomorrow to show what I mean about the fit. This blazer might work for someone just a bit taller than me.

Here is a photo, sorry about the horrible lighting.

This jacket shape is just not right for me. I think maybe it was meant for a straighter body shape, not a pear, and it's definitely for a slightly taller petite than me. So if you are 5'4" ish and one of the other body types it might work for you. The colors are almost iridescent, which makes them very festive although I'm not sure I personally like it. Back they go. NEXT.

Gigi yes I did check WHBM, they are another brand that often fits me. They have a basic one in a plum color (too purple for me), and a double breasted one in black and teal in a diff style, but I have a black one already and don't want teal either

So thanks for all the supportive comments, I'm over it I'm getting much better and not falling too much in love with things I order until I get them home. ONWARD!

Boo! I think the pocket placement is awful too. I was inspired by your original post to do a quick search on eBay (I wanted yellow velvet) and am pleased to report I found a really nice Eddie Bauer blazer that fits really well. My fit issue is my chest; I must have two buttons or any jacket will gape. I have short T Rex arms too, but I can always ask for that measurement up front.

Blazers are the hardest item of clothing to fit, in my opinion. So many elements to consider: shoulder width, chest, length of sleeve and torso. Below are two that I bought this year from J. Crew and Boden that ticked all the boxes (for um, a price). See how the sleeve is the same length as the hem in the J. Crew pic? That's a go-ahead for me.

Nice, Roberta! I agree with you about blazers being tough to fit. Actually any structured item in a non-knit fabric can be tough to fit but yeah jackets have so many dimensions where they have to fit right that there is lots of room for it not to be right.

Angie, thanks for the talbots suggestion,it probably would work well, but I already have a black velvet jacket that fits very well and I don't want the other two colors they are showing (fall fuscia and classic red).

Suntiger, I WISH I could find in-store options I've been looking for quite a while and found very little. Most retailers are shrinking their petite departments every year. I did find black a few times but already have one of those.

RobinF, thanks! That one just might work, although I've kind of moved on to thinking about other types of outfits (without a blazer) at this point. I will definitely give those a look. I'm a little reluctant to pay $20 for shipping which is what it would cost to get even one of these jackets into my hands to try it. I've not looked at that brand before, thanks for putting them on my radar!

Bummer, Sundance had free shipping and 20% off for Black Friday, although I don't know if it was free returns. I haven't bought clothes from them before so can't vouch for the quality, but they look gorgeous.
