PSA: Faux leopard coat, amazing ASOS buy

Well I'm still figuring out my style and I don't know if a faux leopard coat even fits within my reality lifestyle or if it's a fantasy item, but for $55, I figured why not give it a whirl.

I have 2 leopard coats (one a little similar to this and a plusher long one - both bargains, but not this good) and I want this one too! I will resist since I'm veering into crazy cat lady territory (ok, I've been there) but honestly it looks like a nice one.

Most excellent coat I remember seeing Atlantic-Pacific's Malene Birger coat and being smitten and blown away by the price! Nice to find a very reasonable substitute.

I am considering one too, but I'm of the age where we have to do Leopard v.e.r.y carefully

Oh no, MNsara!

Just about to hit order button on this cute coat till your comment stopped me in my tracks.

I'll soon turn 62 years old and like to have fun with fashion, but STILL -- try to be very careful so I won't be a laughing stock. You know the 'fine line' that you don't want to cross?

So, do you think this leopard coat is too much for, ahem, the mature ones among us?

DeniseP, I too was wondering about MNsara's comment. Is it a Mrs. Robinson thing?

It led me to look for some blog posts about wearing animal prints, and I did find these, but nothing age-related per se, although some did post in the comments about Mrs. R.

I think if you keep the rest of the look super minimal, it should be fine. But, I would be interested to hear other viewpoints as well.

I saw 'The Graduate' when I was a junior in HIGH school, and that movie made me blush. Imagine that!
Then I had to tell my dad a little fib about what movie we saw. BUT, that was forty-five years ago ... Time has a way of changing things. But I'm not out to be a Mrs. Robinson!

I am thinking like you -- keep the outfit minimal with nothing else going on, letting the coat be the statement piece.

Fun coat and what a great price! I am so tempted but DH would kill me! Last time I tried to buy a leopard print coat we had a huge fight about it. The YLF consensus was a leopard coat wasn't worth marital stress so I returned it. (That said, I just bought a pair of leopard booties, so we'll see if that can fly under the DH radar).

Oh my goodness, Goldenpig! Thanks for your comment and link to your previous post about leopard print! I missed it, but you're right -- it was lively!
Reminds me of Angie's recent post on camouflage print -- folks have strong reactions to certain fashion designs...
To be honest, I never realized the Leopard print connection to old lady attire or hoochie-territory. Guess I've been under a rock. But I do love some animal print.
Three things from your post helped me though: the quality of the print can make it look cheap or well-done; the cut of the item matters; and, if one likes it, wear it and don't worry about what others think!

Awesome thread, Goldenpig, and I never even thought about what DH will think but actually, upon reflection, he will most certainly hate it. That said, I will try on the coat with some outfits and see what I think. Thanks again!
