PSA: cropped cardigan

I don't know about anyone else but I've been searching for years for a very thin, preferably cotton bracelet sleeve cropped v neck cardigan to layer over camis and tank, dresses that were thin enough to be comfortable under a blazer. A totaly hewi. This little L"agence cardigan just arrived. It's a vicose blend, sleeves are long and I have long arms. but lovely v neck, very classy substantial embossed gold buttons but not too heavy. The ribbing is nice and unusual. The pocket ribs are perfectly aligned with the sweaters ribs - a classy attention to detail. The sweater runs TTS and sleeves are stretchy so although long you can scrunch and they stay in place easily. Looks good open or closed as a top. On sale $130 from $325. Hits slighly below the waist and would work midrise, or high rise and dresses easily. Well worth a look if you need a light weight cropped sweater!!

So glad you found this, Gryffin, I love it for you. Unfortunately, (or fortunately for my wallet), small is sold out in both black and navy, otherwise I would have been very tempted. I may find it elsewhere later.

Tanya - saks has the navy in small but it's $195 plus rakuten and I don't know if there are other coupons. Yes, it's perfect to throw over a dress etc. So difficult to find elevated basics. But I know you are doing a major refresh so you need to prioritize what's most useful!!

Angie - I’ve never bought this brand but, of course, I’ve admired their blazers. I was very impressed with the finish work on the knit. Even high end brands sometimes disappoint. It makes me want to look at their line more closely. They seem to tend toward unique details which I really like!! Yes the navy w gold buttons was very Angie!! Or Angie if you were going to wear a cardigan I should say!!!

Gryffin, agreed, it is perfect to wear over sheath dress for work. I am currently not buying work clothes and refreshing my casual summer wardrobe. However, I am "saving" the idea in a mental folder ( together with Theory Clairene) for that time in the future when I may need something similar and/or stumble upon it somewhere at excellent price. I have always had great success with anything I tried based on your recommendation.

It sounds like the perfect sweater! Like Tanya mentioned, though, others must have thought the same things, as it is sold out in every color in a small. Unfortunate, as I am looking for something similar.

Tanya - agreed super important to buy for real life. Although the leather sleeve theory Clairene has become a real work horse. As a blazer for work but as a light topper pretty much everywhere. But nothing is a bargain if you can’t use it. You are wise and disciplined!!

Bijou - I’m not a cardi girl but there are rare ones that are just so useful. Although I’m shocked when things like that sell out at full price. Then again she who waits may miss out. I’m sure something will pop up. Saks did have the navy in small when I was browsing. Just a perfect little throw on.

That's lovely! Yours isn't available in my size anymore, sadly, but I did just get a different cropped long sleeve sweater in a cotton-merino blend, which I've been quite satisfied with. You could replace the buttons if you want fancier ones.

Alway trying - IKR the very thin layerable sweaters can be so tough to find. But so useful!!
Angie - never met a blazer I didn't like!! My latch key is always out for a new friend!!
Rachy - isn't it sad how the finish work has devolved. So much nice attention to detail. Hoping the fabric holds up!!
Alix - I love Everlanes blazers the linen and the oversized boyfriend. That looks like a really nice cardigan. Thanks for the suggestion. I did have to smile, I actually prefer plain same colored buttons. The gold embossed were bordering on deal breaker but I'm hoping it will feel like an upgraded basic. It looks like the black cardi has white buttons, again, that would be the only thing no perfect for me. I'm very much the minimalist in clothing styles. But it might we worth a try on and swapping out the buttons. Does it run TTS? It looks quite roomy in the body. Did you size down?

Funny how we can have similar HEWIs but the little details make them different enough for each of us. I originally clicked on this post because the title was long a HEWI for me too, but my cropped cotton cardigan is open with a rounded neckline instead (it ticked so many boxes for me that I actually posted about how I've duplicated that once-HEWI in multiple colours already, haha!)

PS - How do you feel about the pockets? Are they mostly for form or also function (can they hold a tissue)? Waist pockets are ideal for me in theory (hip ones tend to bow out unflatteringly), but then I tend to hit this impractical reality.

Zaeobi - the cropped cardigan was jcrew v neck cashmere 3/4 sleeves same colored buttons again useless pockets but they were not obtrusive. I wore it will it was so badly pilled a sweater shaver could not restore it. Had I know how impossible it was to replace I would have worn it anyway. The pockets are not a deal breaker. Very unobtrusive giving texture. I would never use the pockets. I like to layer a cami under these sweaters and use it as a top, tucked or not but on midrise will hit just above the belt. I would take a round neck but it would have to scoop under collar bone which again almost impossible to find. I lot of button cardis are too high at the neck. But that's still on the wish list. Laundry had a great one with very fine embroidery. the 90's you could find them. But they've been gone for decades. DKNY had a embroidered cropped sweatshirt cardi, very elevated with fine embroidered flowers and 3/4 sleeves. Wore them to shreds and never found a replacement. Hope springs eternal.....

Gryffin, I bought according to my bust size and how I wanted the cardigan to fit (looking at the garment measurements on the size chart). I have 32" bust and chose size small. The ribbing is stretchy, so I could certainly have gotten away with XS. My usual Everlane size on tops is XXS. I went up on this one because I wanted to be certain that I could wear it buttoned up all the way without the buttons pulling or puckering. The only "issue" I've run into by choosing a larger size is that the arms are a bit longer on me, but I'm quite short, so it's a common issue I encounter with all tops. Re buttons, I will likely swap mine out for black buttons, too!

Looking back at my photos wearing these cardigans, they actually don't have a round neckline at all - I don't know why I thought they did!
