Geneticists (especially those that study fruit flies for some reason) like to name genes they discover after fanciful interpretations of their molecular functions. Recently a group from Canada discovered a protein that degrades (or tidies up?) proteins inherited from mom that are no longer needed in the embryo... they named it Marie Kondo!
