Project Runway - new season, new models

I just started watching the latest season of PR. It's nice to see that one of the things they're doing this season is working with models of a wide range of size. It's also nice to see most of the designers expressing appreciation for that. I know, it's just a reality TV show, but I applaud them for featuring models outside of the old model-thin norm.

Anyone else watching? I've been a fan for a long time but I've missed a season or two.

I watched it and agree that the models are fab and each is beautiful. I'm not sure if any noticeably petite models were included. Did you see any?

I watch! I've watched since the beginning. Huge Tim Gunn fan, here. He seems like the kindest person on the planet and nonjudgmental about body shape. He's been very outspoken about the need for fashion to be more inclusive, so I think the decision to use models of various sizes was probably sincere/well intentioned. However, I saw a sound-bite from Heidi Klum that indicated that the designers were not so happy about the model choices this season.

I have been recording and plan to binge watch the shows. I'm not going to read more about what's going on until I have time to get caught up!

I havent watched this in quite some time but I have been binge watching recordings on DVR
"What not to Wear"
These are really old shows though but I find them interesting as my body and figure age's lol

Big PR fan here, so of course I'm watching. So happy to see the variety of shapes and sizes on the models. Designers need to know how to design for all bodies. Tim Gunn is a treat.

I've got it on the dvr and plan to start this week. I love Tim Gunn too. My husband and I met season 11 winner Michelle Lesniak while she was working at a local shop. The season was still airing so of course she didn't say anything but we did ask if Tim was as nice as he comes across onscreen and her answer was a resounding 'Yes!'.

Tim Gunn is wonderful. I have a bobblehead of him in my studio -- a reminder to "make it work!"

Christian Siriano is from my area, and I've never met him, but we have several mutual friends who all agree he is a sweetheart, and they knew from the time he was very young that he was talented and had the drive to make it far.

I also met Gordana from season 6 or 7 when she had a shop in San Diego. She was really nice too.

I always enjoy seeing the creative process in the designs, even if it's in a drama-enhanced reality TV package.

I have not watched the show, but if you think it is worthwhile, I will certainly DVR the shows for binge watching in the near future.

My favorite episodes are the ones in which Tim visits the finalists in their studios as they are prepping for the finale and we get to see their creative process in greater detail. My favorite episode of all time was this episode from Season 3--Jeffrey Sebelia won, but Laura Bennett and Uli Herzner were really strong. I loved Laura's home and lifestyle. Remember when one of her little boys offered Tim some turtle poop?

I love love love Tim Gunn. The judges, less so. Michael Kors was so mean as a judge that I won't buy his merchandise. The fact that he puts his big honking name on everything doesn't help.

My favorite moment on PR was when Tim Gunn visited Jay McCarroll from season 1 at home, and he came out wearing a plaid hunting hat and holding a shot gun shouting, "Tim Gunn, get off my property!"

I also remember the meanness of some of the contestants, and contrast that with the Great British Baking Show where the contestants are so nice to everyone.

The twins are going to be an issue.

JAileen, the twins are so obnoxious! I know she's not always nice, but Nina Garcia certainly has a way with words (and so did Michael Kors, he could be so bitchy!). I will never forget her saying that "short, tight and shiny is the quickest way to look cheap, not chic," or something like that. Zac Posen seems to walk the line -- he delivers some harsh criticism, but usually with a smile. Ah, it's TV!

One of my favorite shows! Love the various-size models but I agree with Joy, no petites The twins are annoying, even though from my state and believe me most Michiganders don't talk like that! So far I kind of like Margarita (is that the name?) and the guy who won this week. I'm a fan of Zac Posen, he seems pretty nice. Nina makes me laugh but she is kind of harsh sometimes. I do wish they would let the drama happen on its own without forcing it, but that is reality TV I guess.

I love Project Runway! It's my guilty pleasure. I love Tim Gunn and think he has a way with words (I always think it's funny when he compliments a contestant using fancy words and you can tell they have no idea what he just said). I'm curious how this season will work with the different sized models.

I love that the models are not just the polar opposites of "plus size" or "straight size" with the usual model body type. Despite the lack of anyone seemingly under 5'7" (seems the height standard for runway models is still intact), it's nice to see a model who is slim but has a booty and hips, and others who seem to be that elusive "in between" size. It's always been a point of personal annoyance to me that I would never see models who look anything like me, in the size 6-8-10 range. They were all traditionally 0-2 (maybe a 4, gasp!) or in the 14+ range. It always seems patronizing and like some sort of statement, rather than acknowledging that women come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and fashion should too!

I haven't watched regularly for a few seasons now but sounds like I should tune back in! I love PR - it's such a great celebration of creativity and style. I appreciate that the show is trending toward presenting fashion for every-body.

I think Christian Siriano's success has played a big role in that!

Project Runway - one of the very few reality shows that I watch - because - Tim Gunn - and because the creativity, the resourcefulness - the talent! And, of course, the drama. (I'm looking at you SHAWN!) But, mainly because of Tim Gunn - he is so cute, I just want to squish him!

I used to watch and love this show, but fell out of it about five or six years ago and never fell back into watching it. I did enjoy Tim Gunn though....

I'm enjoying the show and love the range of sizes.
I was visiting LA and went to Mood. I know it's usually the NY one, but still, fun.
I also had the pleasure of hearing Tim Gunn speak when my local Kate Spade store had a grand reopening. It's a small, suburban store, and he talked outside in the courtyard. He has quite a way with words, was very charming and, in answer to a question, forthright about one of the previous contestants, not a favorite of his.

I haven't watched in years but I think I would like to again. In one of the earlier seasons, a contestant from Little Rock- Korto- was a first runner up. A couple of local boutiques carried her designs and she was very nice in person. We recently visited Crystal Bridges, an American art museum built by the Walton family (the architecture and the grounds are amazing), and I read that Korto had designed uniforms for the museum.

I loved this season! The designers may not have been happy with the model choices but it totally worked!
