Products for Pixies?

This is a question for YLF-ers who sport (or have sported) short/ pixie haircuts: What hair products do you recommend using? And what techniques do you recommend for applying the products to your hair?

I'm not a huge product user, in general (aside from shampoo and conditioner), but when I got my hair cut recently, my stylist recommended using products to enhance the look; since she cuts my husband's hair as well, she suggested using the same product he does (Rusk Styling Creme).

I've been doing that, with occasional good results -- I like the piece-y look I am sometimes able to achieve, but it is inconsistent. Also, it does feel a little heavier than I like. It also sometimes feels greasier than I like, but that might be because I'm misjudging the quantities.

Anyway, it got me thinking, and I thought I'd ask around here, given the number of pixies on the forum. Thank you for weighing in!

I used to have my hair cut really really short, and I used to use styling wax. My hair is fine, straight and thin, however. I do find that a lot of the waxes are horrifically strongly scented, but I liked how they added texture and body to the cut.

Ah to be 21 again. I have flirted with the idea of going back to this look.

My hair is quite long now but I used to be a pixie (ha, how cool does that sound?). I never used any products because I don't like how they feel to the touch and my hair has a tendency to go all oily and greasy in half a day, especially when shorter, so I didn't want to even add more weight to it. I just let it be, and I have crazy hair so it didn't look that good lol

Ceit - this is how my hair looks (sort of) right now, so you have my support for going back to this look! BTW, I have the same issues with styling wax - too much scent!

I also like the messy & piecey effects. I keep my hair trimmed and texturized every 4-5 weeks. I put a pea size amount of 'Fekkai Gloss' in my hair before drying and a tiny amount of 'L'Oreal Out Of Bed Texture Cream' after drying to give me that messy look. I think it's key NOT to use too much product. You may not need to use any gloss. The reason I do is because my hair is grey and it can look dry. But, I really recommend your stylist texturize your hair when you get your hair cut. Bet you look super in your new style!

I use CREW Pomade (you can get it at Target). I like it because it's basically just Castor Oil.

It comes in different "weights" - so far I've only tried medium. I rub about 1/2 - 3/4 tsp in my palms and then "scrunch" my hair after it's dry.

This was recommended by my stylist.
