Problems with Jeans

I bought new jeans from Gap and loved them until I washed them and now I feel like they have stretched out and don't fit as nice. I bought them quite tight to allow for this but they still seem to big for me now! Can anyone give me a suggestion of what to do? I normally wash at 30 or 40 and line dry then iron!

If you have followed the washing instructions and the original shape has not returned I would be heading back to the store for a refund.

I've read numerous comments about Gap denim's irritating tendency to stretch after washing. I wash my Gap jeans on a cold water setting and line dry and they still do this. I think it's a characteristic of the fabric. I've also heard that this season's styles are made of fabric that's less prone to stretch out, but I haven't bought one to test that.

Gap fits me well enough that I put up with the stretching, but if it bothers you, Gap just may not be your label for denim.

You could always try a hot wash/dry.

haven't I read that you're not supposed to iron jeans? does it break down the spandex?
also, I *finally* learned that snug means SNUG! I bought just a cheap pair of Vera Wang jeans at Kohls recently and bought them embarrassingly tight. After a day of wearing, they were perfect! Now they fit really nice out of the wash, and I can wear them 2 or 3 times before I need to wash them again.

I am noticing that the higher the stretch content in any pair of jeans, the more likely it is they'll stretch out.

Meanwhile, recently decided to wash and line dry some very old, cheap jeans - and like magic - they unshrunk themselves. You might want to do the reverse? Put them in the dryer just this once?

I might try to take them back, honestly! You can explain what you said on here. Before you do that you could try some of the suggestions, but my experience is if jeans stretch like that they are going to keep doing it. The dryer is also always a temporary fix for me sometimes...
