Problem with the Timberlands

If you can't tell from the pic, it's the stitching coming loose. After a few hours of wear. And I have no idea what I possibly could have done to cause this.

It's the kind of thing that I can't overlook. I'd be concerned about it happening with the next pair. I'm probably going to return them and think about keeping the Borns, perhaps.

It is a fun shoe. I'm disappointed. I'll go on to read the new shoedown comments now. Thanks.

Nordie's is great at returns. Prolly unlikely it will happen again but disappointing it happened period. Try the Borns and see what you think in comparison. If you find yourself mourning for the Tims, give 'em another try. Does your store have them in stock? or must you order online? I so much prefer in-store shopping but my store, two hours away, doesn't often carry what I'm looking for. And when I finally do get to the store, I find myself seeing other items that would work just as well so I forget about what my intention was to begin with and am usually happy with chosen item(s).

Oh, no. Those were the cute shoes! I saw them at the store today and they are soft, not stiff like many Timberlands.

Oh no! That's too bad. Well, Nordstrom is amazing at returns. I will forever be a Nordstrom fan after I had a pair of shoes fell apart on me and while in the Shoe salon, the salesman ran over with a new pair of the exact shoe. No questions - just here's a replacement because yours shouldn't look like that. I never even had to ask! Sometimes you just get a lemon.

They may have some quality control issues in manufacturing. Too bad!

Oh, and I don't want it to seem (it's hard to tell with writing) like I'm upset over the shoes...they're just shoes! I'm just perplexed and feeling like the decision's been made, in my case, to go for something else. It may very well be one freak bad shoe, or that the product isn't good at all, but we'll have to see how other fabbers fare. I'm just one of those people who won't ever get past it. I like to own fewer things, but want them to really stand the quality test and be sturdy. I don't even know if the stitching is decorative or functional.

What a bummer! Those shoes are really cute, I was happy to read you kept them. Maybe you just received a 'lemon' or a pair that snuck through quality control? Perhaps you could check the reviews on the Nordstrom website and see if others are having this problem. If not, maybe just an exchange is in order.

Good idea, Colette. I did search in general online (not Nordstrom site) for reviews. The only negative one I read was that water (rain? a puddle?) seeped right through. It was like the wearer had assumed they were a standard Timberland hiking boot, which is not my impression of this particular shoe. I think this is more fashion shoe than gear, despite its upper that resembles a hiking boot. I also think it could take time for the shoe to have issues...maybe mine was a freak lemon in that it came unstitched after three hours! I'll check back in if I find out anything interesting.

Very good ratings on the Nordstrom site, with only complaints about narrow width.

OTOH, the stitching is something that could possibly be overlooked. It's not that obvious if you're not looking closely. It's a section that's less than half an inch (so far).

Situations like the one you are describing remind me of why I love Nordies, their customer service will be there for you even if you already wore the shoes outside (which is not your case) and run into a problem. Other stores will tell you to address the issue with the manufacturer.
The leather of the shoes is quite soft and porous so I am not surprised that water seeps right through.

Actually I did wear the shoes outside. Also I'm going to try returning them at The Rack, and I'm not sure if their customer service is as good. But I think it should be okay; the receipt clearly shows that they are brand-new. If I have any issues with returning them, I'll let you know! : )

Probably if you got a replacement it wouldn't happen again. But maybe you're relieved because now a decision has been made.

Hard to know if a fluke or characteristic of the shoe. Agree not to keep defective items; your eye goes right to the problem and some worsen over time.

So sorry to hear this. I'm glad you decided to return bc if you are like me, it will annoy you to no end to KNOW that defect is there (yet you're still wearing them, and paid x dollars).

I replied in your other thread, not sure if you saw it. I was curious about your decision on these. They seemed to be stretching your style a bit (maybe I am wrong or projecting myself here). I wondered how they were going to feel after a while and if you felt like they really pushed you into a more fashionable space with your outfits. I guess I am struggling with this - my style leanings tend to be pretty modern classic. I am struggling with how to keep my outfits current and have come to the conclusion that shoes and bags matter and can make or break the overall look. But I find myself drawn to the same colors, shapes and styles of shoes so wondering if I am getting stale. Just thinking out loud here.

I will be able to return the boots, but since they're not brand new anymore it can't be at a Rack--has to be at a Nordstrom.

That's strange, I returned at the Rack a pair of stockings that came torn and I did not even wear them.
I guess it depends on whom you talk to.

Last year I bought a Timberland fold down boot in grey. Nordstrom website said it was waterproof! A HEWI for sure. The boots did not say on them or on the box that they were waterproof. I called Timberland and asked them, using their reference number on the box. They told me no, they were not waterproof. I called Nordstrom and told them what I had found out. They were very nice and said they would change the misleading wording in the description for the boot. They never did, though. I returned my pair, BTW, with no problems. Nordstrom has been very good about that. I ended up getting some navy waterproof boots directly from Timberland.
