Practicality of leather tops?

I've been seeing more and more leather tank-style tops and am wondering if these are really that practical. Wouldn't they need to be sent for cleaning quite often, seeing as something sleeveless would certainly be in contact with your underarm sweat? I love the top I've posted in Finds but for the life of me can't imagine it would be practical.

I have a leather peplum sleeveless top (currently a little too tight on me so it's in my holding zone and may have to be let go ). I have only worn it as a vest, over a lightweight blouse or shirt. I tried to wear it alone, but the combination of sleeveless + leather was a bit too seasonally confused for me. If it's warm enough to be sleeveless, it's too warm to wear leather. At least for me.

It's super cute, but doesn't seem too practical. Maybe it could be a special statement piece. For me, I have some faux leather sleeves on one short sleeve sweater and a faux suede front short sleeve top. That's as close as I want to come to this trend with my weather.

I owned one in the past, but it was a rarely used item so I passed it on. I also did what Janet describes. It was hard to figure out seasonally. I used it like a vest but it was rather stiff and more trouble than I wanted to manage in a wardrobe item when I had small children.

i have one...honestly its not an every week pieced, if you are a CPW, this item (or one similiar) will probably never earn its place....but if you are looking for a special piece that can make an outfit, this are great....as of your qestion re underarm sweat, i never had a problem, (but i'm not a big sweater)...i wear the piece and let it air out....but i'm also the person who doesn't wear socks with most of my leather shoes...

I have one, I wear it a lot to dinner dates. It feels wonderful. It doesn't seem to need much cleaning or care and it packs beautifully. One of the first things I bought when I joined YNAB.

Hmm, I hadn't even thought of the seasonal confusion aspect. That might be a deal breaker for me, because I usually run cold, and I don't break out sleeveless tops until it's pretty darn hot. It would have to be made of really lightweight leather.

It's interesting to know that people don't seem to have a problem with sweating on the leather. Sounds like maybe it's something worth trying when I feel like I have the funds.

I don't think sweat odors would be too much of a problem. I suppose you could wear a cotton tank underneath if it doesn't ruin the effect.

I love that top Gigi. I would see wearing it as a statement piece to wear with jeans to a music concert or dinner date with my sweetie (DH). I don't sweat all that much so that isn't a concern to me. I would not expect to wear it more than a few times a year.
