Practical but uninspired travel capsule - thoughts?

I'm going to Munich to visit my oldest friend (we've known each other since kindergarten) for four days starting tomorrow and was just packing when I thought about posting some pics.

I had planned to just take a small bag and no suitcase, so I wanted to keep everything as light as possible. I do think that this should work for the weather, even though it's very casual - especially for Munich. But we are going to do a lot of walking and all my dressier stuff needs different shoes, jackets and so on. Do you think it's alright? I do think that it's a bit boring, any idea how to tweak it a bit? Would you add anything? I plan to wear #2 and #5 on the days I'm travelling, they're both quite comfortable.

Boring? My travel outfits this summer were a lot more boring than that! I think it's a cute casual capsule for a brief trip. My only question is whether you need à dressier option for a dinner out or some kind of occasion. If not, I think you are good to go. Btw, that deer tshirt is so cute.

Thanks Laura! The deer tshirt is new, I just had to buy it. I don't think we'll go out or eat anywhere fancy, but I'm going to ask my friend if she has anything planned.

I think it is casual but not boring. Are you sure you will be warm enough though? Maybe throw in a sweater for evening. I am not sure if you wear jewelry, but some nice pieces like a bangle or nice earrings could make the difference for adding more polish and personality.

Thanks Scarlet! She just said she hasn't anything fancy planned, so I think I'll be alright. I've been wearing long sleeves with this jacket in the last few days and felt okay in the morning, but you're right that it will probably be a bit chilly in the evening. It's true that I don't have any accessories in there so far, I had planned to wear my watch in any case and my pearl studs as everyday earrings. I'll have a look what else I could add.

I don't think it's boring either. I like Scarlet's idea for a bit of jewelry too.
My cold self is thinking that if it were me I may not be warm enough in Breton tops and could need a sweater to take as well. But if you think that won't be a problem for you then I think you are good to go.

Thanks Diane! You know what I need for the future? A nice chunky cardigan that I can layer over this stuff. I don't have anything that could go over these tops and under the jacket besides my fleece jacket, that would make this even more casual.

I think it looks fantastic but the mom in me is asking what if your single pair of pants gets dirty or wet? I would consider a spare. Also are you taking one pair of shoes? You could add a bright scarf - that would punch it up?

Thanks Glory. Those are two pairs of pants (although they look similar), a pair of corduroy straight legs and some jeans. I wouldn't take only one pair either. Only one pairs of shoes, yes. I don't have much shoes in general, the oxfords are only comfortable with tights so far because they aren't broken in yet and my winter boots would be too warm. I have a second pair of sneakers I could take, the ones below. All my brighter scarves are thin summer ones, so that wouldn't work.

ETA I'm going to pack my fleece jacket just in case.

Astrid, I think this is nowhere near boring. It looks like with some layering you might sort out the temperature issue - I was in Munich last weekend (I might go this one too, I'll look for you on the streets ) and had to layer a lot. The forecasts are similar both weekends. Plus, drizzling rain makes it a bit uncomfortable, but I could sort that with wearing a hat. The weather should be getting warmer, but for me personally freezing can really ruin things as I can't relax when I'm cold, so I like to be prepared.

Thanks Ornella! I'm going to take my fleece jacket, I think I'll be alright with that. The weather should be comparable to our weather here and it's supposed to get a smidge warmer and rain less. But you're right of course, freezing takes all the fun out of it. I really need to buy a good fall coat! I'll keep an eye out for you too, although my friend doesn't know about YLF so that would be fun to explain.

Okay, I think I'll go with this for jewelry. As big as I can do, I don't really own statement jewelry.

Thanks Texstyle! It was just the right amount of stuff with the sneakers and the fleece added, it's all in the bag now. I don't think I'll need the second pair of shoes, but you never know. It's probably better to have them.

I think you have come up with a great capsule! I noticed that you have two striped t-shirts and two pairs of pants that are very similar. Perhaps you might consider changing one of the stripes to another style? This might give you an entirely different look.

I don't think it's boring at all. I wish I was this good at packing cute, casual outfits. The burgundy sneakers are super cute! I think the scarves and accessories you've planned keep these from feeling boring.

What a lovely capsule, Astrid! I like it and I think it's great for walking around Munich. We were in Munich this summer and its such an amazing city - I would move there, from Canada, in a second!!! If you feel the capsule is too casual, what about packing one extra outfit just in case you feel the need to be dressier? Like a skirt with tights and your oxfords? I agree that Munich is not the most casual city, so to have an extra piece or two that is dressy might not take up too much extra room in your bag, but would definitely help you to feel prepared in case you guys decided on something fancy and fun at the last minute. Have fun - I am so jealous!

This is adorable! From your description I was expecting a bunch of solid black stuff, and I was going to advise you to add one patterned piece! But you've got pattern covered, plus you have harmonizing colors, plus adorable shoes, and a nice bag that isn't black. You did great!

Thanks everyone! I'm sitting at breakfast right now, wearing the first outfit, I actually think the turqouise ring and the pendant necklace are perfect for it. I really like it with the shirt, I have to remember that combo.

Krista, I haven't been to Munich before, so I'm really looking forward to it. My friend moved there because of her studies, so I'm now having someone to visit. I'm not sure there's room in the bag for tights, skirt and oxfords. Especially because I'd need to pack a different jacket too, this one doesn't work with skirts. I think I'm just going to ask my friend to borrow a dressier top in case we decide to dress up, but I don't think it will be necessary. I'm not fancy enough for Munich in any case, being used to Berlin style.

Adelfa, temperatures seem to be similar to Berlin at the moment, so I think I have a feel for it. But I agree, it wasn't nice fall weather recently. Just hope there won't be more rain the next few days just as promised.

Borrowing a top just in case is an equally great option! I see how the extra stuff would have been too much to carry.

I was not fancy enough for Munich either! ;). Hopefully you will get to the Marienplatz to see the Glockenspiel and the Englischer Garten is beautiful for walking around. There are some very handsome men surfing in the Isar River in the Englischer Garten - I'm just saying!
