GirlX! We miss you :(. Great looks! I'm going with #3 as my best - and I got to see it in person!

Diana! Your style went through the roof this year and it truly is KILLER. It's hard for me to pick a fave, but I'm going with #5, #11 and #12. They showcase your evolved style best

And Kyle rules the Kingdom of Jumpsuit

Sveta, you're another who has her style down, down, down - and I love it! Such creative mixing and matching! Each outfit here is an 11 out of 10 to my eye. #6 made me faint so that's the one that's getting my all time favourite vote for 2012 - and I feel another fainting spell coming along just looking at it again.

Maryk! Your KILLER style literally knows no bounds. WOW! I'm going with #3 and #10 as my absolute bests for 2012 just because they are a dash wilder than the rest!

Ali, George is a dashing beauty - just like his Mama! I HAVE TO go with all your bikini looks as best for 2012, Ms. Rocking Fab Beach Baby

I've tried for a couple of hours today to try to post outfits to this thread from the computer and only succeeded in getting one photo to load....sideways! My favorite of the year may be the dress for DSs wedding. Some outfits have me wondering what was I thinking!
There is so much inspiration on this thread. It will be a great reference.

Wow - what at treat to see such style and such fabulous inspiring women all together in one thread!! I can't figure out where to begin, so I'll just give one big thumbs up to all

I don't take every many pictures, and post even less. I found I took mostly pics to assess Keep or Return -- and spared YLF from the vast majority of them ;-), but I do have a few fall WIWs on this particular computer that are pretty true to how I was dressing. I remember I felt good about and felt good while wearing these outfits.

I've been forcing myself to wear scarves this fall. I see that I look pretty grumpy in most pics, so I guess that's my face in its natural state!

For 2013 I hope to find a new picture location and use my new little gorilla tripod AND put more smiles on my face!!

This is the BEST thread EVER!! (er, sorry, calming down now) What a stunning group of well dressed women! I can't pin every outfit for inspiration but this is going in my favorites.

I didn't take that many outfit photos, so here are the best and why I like them:

1) Feels put together but still smart casual. I should wear this one again soon.
2) "Bold" floral tights, suede booties and unexpected purse color with "old" dress.
3) Feeling sophisticated in a blue shift dress, floral tights, suede booties
4) First time I've come up with a unique color combination
5) Comfortable and colorful + happy with accessories
6) Finally wearing my corset
7) Best possible "extreme casual" outfit. It's hard when sneakers are a necessity.
8) Best "trendy" outfit. Also, lots of red, my "signature" color.

I hereby resolve to photograph my outfits more often in 2013.

Sorry. Didn't know we had a thread going - but here's my Top 10 favourites! Looking back at some of these was very painful... It makes me a little sad that some of these pieces are gone from my closet, like the top in #6, cardigan in #5, dress in #7, dress in #8, top in #9 and have taken up residence with my sister in her closet.

I am currently using #3 as my Hospital ID pictures and a I've gotten a lot of compliments on it - but it's not my favorite outfit out of all of these! I seem to be fond of the striped top in #2 and #5; and the skirt in #1 and #5; and love florals, and prints... and of course, cardigans!

Wow; you can see my hair grow out over these pics - and I'm glad to say I can stick it up in a tiny, tiny little bun right now! I usually stick it up in a clip though, to get it out of the way; when it is down it sort of looks like a ratty-mullet - but we'll keep that our little secret!

This is helping me sort out my priorities for 2013 too!
- New cardigans to replace some of the old ones
- Blazers that fit my arms (and doesn't cut off circulation)
- More separates that are easy to mix and match!

Mmm...! Angie, you have no idea how much I love this thread. It's an Year in Retrospect, Best of the Best, What You Missed (While You Were Sleeping) and readymade inspiration board all rolled into one.

I'm seeing favourites I loved the first time (Shannon's #1, Anna's green jumpsuit, Suz's fuchsia suit remodelled, Lyn's #3 in layers, and oh so many others) and still adore. I'm also getting a round-up of the best that I might not have seen otherwise. This is SUCH a brilliant, rollicking good idea, Angie.

And it's great for accountability, isn't it? :-p When in doubt next year, members can refer back to *this* thread and ask: 'Does my comfort and enjoyment right now stand up to these stellar outfits I wore last year? If not, maybe I need to reconsider... because wow, can I do better?!'

What a lot of FABULOUSly happy looks. Not only is the YLF-ness beyond words here, the sheer overload of happiness factor is rendering me speechless.

My favourites from 2012 (the only year I've been posting!) are those that took me a step further in confidence and/or experimentation...
#1 -- first attempt at wildly bright 'not for me!' colours
#2 -- successful comfy-in-formals (for a change!), cautious first step in pattern mixing
#3 -- discovering a soft belt
#4 -- daring to dolman
#5-6 -- ODing on favourite colours and textures
#7 -- learning to bridge the gap with leggings in a new silhouette, more emphatic pattern mixing
#8 -- acquiring another silhouette (which felt good, even though these pieces aren't individually the most comfortable --- but together, they pointed me in an interesting direction I'd like to explore further)
#9 -- a favourite from Bella's art challenge: rediscovering a traditional silhouette and discovering the cami as more than undergarment
#10 -- also from Bella's challenge (boy, do I owe her!): throwing together Indian and Western, formal and casual... and feeling quite okay at that.
#11 -- daring to bare arms after very many years (this was a trial run, but unfortunately I didn't get a shot of actually wearing the outfit out and about)
#12 -- embracing the crumple: if I can't be comfy with polished, I'm going to make the most of the rumple! Bonus: another new silhouette
#13 -- And a traditional variation that didn't feel too frumpy or fussy. Plus: New hair
#14 -- shout-out to Sona: The 'old slippers' that made me smile every time, no matter what I wore them with (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....d-slippers), and I'm still grinning
#15 -- rather retro and casual, and belted too, with boho beads that didn't feel too costume-y like this
#16 -- dress pants and button down, but relaxed; in a ?difficult palette
#17 -- my first skinnies; my first RED (or any bright colour) pants; my first non-T-shirt knit top (all became staples)
#18 -- a favourite old silhouette freshened up (maxi skirt, but topped and belted) and favourite pattern mix of the year
#19 -- another new silhouette, which became a staple
#20 -- a large splash of colour, for the festival of colours, to 'dress up' the plainest, most casual outfit possible (white T-shirt, distressed blue jeans)... and feeling that was good enough!
#21 -- simple and neutral, but with texture and a fun bag, not feeling too drab!
#22 -- rediscovering a girlhood favourite
#23 -- rescuing two orphans, finally
#24 -- first attempt at tucking and belting with pants and a button-down that doesn't feel too 'office'
#25 -- harem pants, yet again! another silhouette
#26 -- favourite maternity make-do (with hubby's pants and kaftan, also a new silhouette)
#27 -- next-best and 'happy accident' maternity outfit
#28 -- maternity jeans at last, and boyfriends to boot!
#29 -- comfy as pajamas, though a shocker of a colour and silhouette for me
#30 -- last Christmas: layering in solstice colours and roomy shapes

Sorry about the deluge! I didn't realize I was as 'happy' as all that with my wardrobe, given I had far more failures than successes and lots of frustrating, un-fab days too. But I guess it has been a GREAT learning curve of a year. Thanks to Angie and all!

Hope to do better --- and have a tighter selection of favourites, corresponding to a higher bar --- this year!

Ah, Angie, George and I both thank you from the bottom of our fuzzy hearts!

My pleasure, Ali

Manidipa! I've got to go with #18 as my best! That's cutting edge catwalk stuff:). I'm going with #27 next because those colours are extremely dazzling on your complexion. They dance!

Lyn*, I'm going with #7 and #9 as my faves of your roundup because they are the most streamlined and modern! You rock blue with black

Sara! #2 and #3 are so extra yummy I could eat you up!

Sylvie, I'm going with #2 because you look too gorgeous for words. #8 is a close second because it's trendy and fun!

Sorry...I was in NYC for four nights with only an iphone, so not only could I not post (and I was dying to) but I only got a limited look at other outfits, but what I did see blew. me. away. The style was so overwhelmingly fantabulously plonkworthy, I wanted to stare at all of it for a few hours to try and absorb thru osmosis everyone's secret for being so effortlessly stylish. (And I'm hoping I will sometime soon have better comments for at least some of you--you all deserve high praise but it's almost overwhelming just to take it all in!)

Anyway, so now I have pulled together some of my greatest hits of 2012 and am pleased and somewhat surprised that I managed to pull off more cute, happy looks than I'd thought!

I'd like to post more thoughts, revelations, analyses, etc but I think I should leave it for a separate thread. All I'll say here is that I had more fun with clothes than I'd realized...also one of my resolutions is to get my hair to consistently look better (some of the pics came before the "curly girl" cut...but some were just bad hair days, let's face it.)

And so, in no particular order.....

Yikes! I was out of town and missed this great post. I've really loved checking out everyone's 2012 outfits. Here are some of my favorites:

You are perhaps the Elegant Minimalist, nancylee. I remember those nude heels from around the time I first started participating in YLF. So cool and lustworthy and perfectly you. You take really interesting and successful risks with fashion, too. I love it all but especially 1 and 6.

Thanks for your kind words, Mochi. I've actually begun to think I have a more minimalist/elegant style that I previously thought. It's so interesting how our own perceptions of ourselves can be "off." I always thought of myself as a boho type...but the pictures don't lie!

BTW, you look fab in jackets.

YLF'ers, you look good! I have just clicked on every single pic. It was fabulous to see them all in a string. And to be honest, I found comfort in how many pics there were. The process is repeatable! Lol.

I don't think I've ever felt brave enough to participate in this thread before! And 4 outfits is not exactly a thread-breaking record, but these are what I loved.

#1 - "denim on denim" - out of my comfort zone, but so fun!
#2 - "a lustful outfit" - I lusted over Angie's shoes for a year before pulling the trigger on a pair of my own. And I lusted after that sweater for 2 months, too.
#3 - "new and new again" - my first silk shirt ever. More importantly, this was the first piece I bought after doing my color analysis -- the color (a red-dy rust) is new to my wardrobe, but I love how I look in it.
#4 - "pattern mixing for n00bs" - my first attempt at pattern mixing, precipitated by a dare (graduated stripes + spots + houndstooth skinnies)

#5 is a special thank-you to you fabulous YLF ladies. This is my 2012 closet, and many of the pieces in here are post-YLF acquisitions, or pre-YLF acquisitions that have survived multiple purges as my fashion "eye" has gotten more keen. Thank you all, very much. I literally smile every time I walk into my closet and see all these lovely, perfect-for-Charmian pieces.

Giveable flats twin!!!! I'm so pleased with your happiness over your closet, Charmian. Loving the crispness and clean lines of your outfit samples here.

Sorry about the crummy picture! it's the best one I could find from that night.

This outfit was a complete surprise. Just a year ago I would have said NO WAY to dressy winter shorts, the furry vest, impractical clutch and shortening booties. But there you go! This WIW is a clear illustration of my style evolution. I guess I owe it all to Zap! She was with me when I found the R&B booties in NYC. Also, once she posted her wool shorts and she looked so great in them, I knew this look had to be mine. Thanks to all of you YLFers for inspiring me with your fab style.

Here's to another stylish year!

Great thread and so many FAB outfits - totally inspiring!!

These are my favorite outfits from 2012. Some are casual and some dressy / work wear - all served their purpose, though some could need minor adjustments Most of them are from spring, summer (coldest summer ever!) and early autumn.

I see that I havn't been taking any wiw pics from the last months were I've literally been living in different wool skirts with a blouse and V-neck wool sweater. It's been a great formula this autumn. And skinnies + plaid shirt has been my casual formula (#2).

I've added this thread to my favorites. SO many great outfits to browse through here!

I'm embarrassingly late to the game, but wanted to add my own favorites (double posted in my LookFab blog.)

I'm very late because I was without my laptop until this week, but I wanted to add my outfits all the same. I've just looked at all of yours and this thread is completely awesome!

I think I had a big style change in 2012, mostly because I feel like I know much better know what I want. Most of these pictures are from summer/fall/winter, only the first one was taken last spring.

I am fashionably late.

Thank you, Caro, for pointing me to this thread!

Thoughts as I look back:

1. Dresses were my theme this year. I wore a LOT of them, and I am still going strong with dresses. It was hard to narrow down to favorites.

2. I am surprised that the neon pink skirt made it in -- twice.

3. Don't have an apoplexy, Angie, but I embraced maxi's this summer.

4. I am still wearing jeans and pants (especially now that it is cold). But I feel like pants are kind of a snooze, too formulaic. Even though I tried some new formulas.

5. I never did find my holy grail leather jacket but I am happy with my pleather ones, including the one in photo 9. (Hard to see, I know... it's the best shot I have. I have been wearing this a lot). And of course photo 2 cropped moto!

6. I threw in outfit in photo #1 because it represents my continued love for a few old items that are still going strong. I just adore this short sleeve BR jacket.

7. Can't forget my halloween costume!

8. No real formal occasions this past year. Gotta fix that!

9. I had a lot of fun with handbags this year. And BOOTIES!

10. Probably the biggest change for me this past year is that I gravitated away from voluminous tops, and experimented even with tucking and belting. I do love volume and waist surrendering, but I got bored with it and found myself craving a more streamlined look.

I see why you love dresses...#2, #3 & #6 are my favourites but as I type this I realise I'm being unfair to the others. Such great looks.
