Thank you, ladies. Sona, yes, hubby JUST went back to work yesterday...but that was a red tape issue, since he's been doing very well.
The wedding post made me think. It's hard to see in Tomoko-san's pics, but first of all, her kimono is elegant and stunning (well, that is obvious) but also her sleeves are very long, dangling sleeves called furi-sode. (Fu-ree-soh-day). Literally, fluttering sleeves. They are traditionally worn on all kimonos a girl wears up and through her wedding.
Then, once she's a married lady, she would wear shorter sleeves all the time. I'm looking at my pic from such a long time ago and wondering why my rental kimono had the short sleeves of an already-married woman. I'll have to ask my husband (though I doubt he'll know why...it was all left to my MIL.)
By Japanese standards for such an auspicious occasion, this is a very plain-Jane kimono. But it's fun that I got to wear it.
