I have been contemplating (actually obsessing) about the Jesse Kamm Sailor Pants for awhile. They are high waisted, wide legged, cropped pants made out of a heavy cotton material. There are several colour options but because they are made in small quantities it is sometimes hard to get certain colours in all sizes.
My first choice would be olive but that colour is not available in my size. Second choice is tobacco. I have also considered midnight.
I am looking for something that is not trendy but has style. A few bloggers have them. StyleBee has worn them a few times. I like her style a lot. Very simple with an edge.
Any thoughts about them?

I've seen these around in a few media outlets as well. You'd have to be pretty long waisted to wear them, with how high that rise is.

i'm loving the tobbaco pair...i'm on the fence about the blue, but i can't tell if its because of the color/fabric or because of how they styled them (don't care for those shoes with those pants, wish they would have shown them with the booties)

Me too! I don't know how I can justify the price, so I think I'm trying the new Everlane wide legs crops first, but I may still cave and procure a pair of these for spring/summer. Hard to say no to timeless wide legs in 100% Cotton and great colors...

I imagine would look superb on you, and suit what I have seen of your style well. I love both the look and feel of cotton canvas and the button fly is such a nice detail!

I think this is a pant where some body types and heights carry it off better than others. I can see this working on you. Would you feel content if you have to settle on a color choice that isn't your first pick?

I keep seeing these and they DO appeal to me. I have some reservations about the length of the rise--probably WAAAAAY to high for me--and about the material, which I think would be better on me if it were more fluid. I'd love to hear your thoughts about these pants should you decide to try them!

Thank you for the feedback. My internet in Florida is touch and go. I think my rise is higher than most. I also like the feeling of high rise pants. My Levis are above my belly button and I quite like that. So are my 7 wide legged jeans.
I do agree that height is needed (I am 5 feet and 7.5 inches).
The Everlane don't get the same reviews. Also I am not as fond of the colours.

Love the tobacco colour.
This style works well with my long rise and short legs. What I would do is semi-tuck and make sure my backside is mostly covered.
I would give them a try.

I just got the JCrew wide leg chino (full button fly). Nice fabric and generous cut, for JCrew. I am 5'9" and 170, got the 16. Though I don't think they have quite the range of colors.

Thank you for your feedback. I am most likely going to order them in the tobacco colour. I rarely order anything online so I get nervous doing this. I am in Florida so US online shopping is much easier.
Lisa I am long waisted. I only realized this when I joined YLF. Okay how is that possible. I have never had problems buying clothes because of being long waisted. And I use to find pants too short so I thought my legs were longer than normal.
Bijou I also am attracted to them because I think they are timeless. Jesse Kamm has been making these pants for 10 years. How did I not know about them? I am trying to buy pieces of clothing that are trendless.
Kkards I agree that the tobacco colour looks much better in the photo. I also really like that colour.
La Ped the initial cost is high but I do plan on wearing the pants a long time. I only take a few pairs of bottoms with me when I travel so they have to earn their keep. The Everlane ones might work in washed black but I would always pine for the others.

Delurked I would be happy with Olive or Tobacco. I am losing interest in Midnight. I have a pair of Black linen cropped pants from a few years ago. They get lots of wear and they were pricey.

Thanks binkie for the link. Sadly J Crew bottoms never fit me. I am not their body type. I do like their styles.
I will probably order them Brooklyn. Tobacco is the best colour.

Style Fan -- I learned the hard way that if I buy a substitute for something I really wanted, I am never quite satisfied. I recommend trying these on .... at the very least. I hope they work for you.

If you are nervous about online shopping, come to me. I am somewhat of a pro by now. Review the return policy before placing the order. Make sure that shipping is free both ways. Check the internet for comments on the retailer. Respect negative comments and avoid.

Style Fan, I know exactly what you mean about needing to buy the thing you really want, rather than a substitute. I've read all the reviews I can find of both, and will probably end up trying both the Kamms and the Everlanes, since pant fit is so idiosyncratic, I honestly don't know which one will work better (although I vastly prefer 100% cotton over stretch cotton, so that may end up being the deciding factor).

You might also want to take a look at the designer Caron Callahan -- she's got a lot of wide leg crops, very similar to the Kamm pants.

Well I ordered them. Thank you Sterling. I did lots of research before I placed my order. And I measured myself about 10 times. La Ped I have looked at the Everlane ones and I really don't want them. They don't appeal to me. I have black linen wide legged cropped pants that are high waisted and I am very happy with them. They are from a Canadian designer. I will check out Caron Callahan. I might see something I like. Jane I love the tobacco colour. It is a colour I have worn a lot all my life.
Here are some wide legged cropped trousers from the late 80s. You can't see the length. They are mid calf. Or were. My favourite pants of all time.

I think you'll love these, as long as you find the fit and color you like.

I have the Madewell ones, not because I thought the style would look good on me but because I'll try on ANYTHING that comes in heavy white denim, and they were marked way way down at NR. Never thought they'd be so versatile so comfortable, so ...yes...flattering. They're at least as easy to style as binkle's link shows. Oh, maybe they're not flattering, but I feel great and nobody's telling me any different.

Can't wait to see how you style these!

Thanks Suz. I have my fingers crossed that they will work out for me. Minimalist I may have to search for the right pants. But I am hoping the Kamm ones are the right ones. The white ones are nice too. I am afraid of white anything. Yes Lisap I follow StyleBee. Her review is what pushed me over the edge. I quite like her style and I think I am going to purchase a vintage coach bag just like hers. I agree Emily. The Kamm pants are so much nicer. And so much pricer. But I so plan to have them a long long time.

When your heart is set on something, the best thing to do is try it on, otherwise it risks "the one that got away" wardrobe fantasy. If it doesn't work out, you've got options. Good luck! And welcome to online shopping!

I have to admit I "get" the Kamm pants after seeing them on StyleBee. The photo from their website just do them justice. I love Lee's personal style, even though she is so much younger, and have marked several of her outfits for future reference. Now that I've read more about these pants - I say " go for it!"

Thank you lovely Fabbers. You are so right ipr. I passed on a Sarah Pacini skirt a few years ago because it was expensive and I was feeling stretched financially. I regret it to this day. I would have worn that skirt for years to come. I check ebay for it but have not seen it. Lisa I find the styling of the Kamm pants is important. I do like the way StyleBee has worn them. She does have great style and her look works for all ages. I did get a Coach Vintage Bag but not the same as hers. Thanks Lisa. Great article. The author decides to get 2 pairs. She is on to something.
