Possible replacement for suede booties

Thanks to Joy, I stopped at the Rack yesterday and found these Steven booties as possible replacements for my Seychelles. Looking for your thoughts.

PRO: inexpensive ($80), great shape, beautiful color, appear to be comfortable, fit well, similar foot shape (and may hold shape better due to construction)

CON: slightly higher profile, darker than Seychelles, larger perforations (not sure a con but also not sure a pro), possibly different vibe (not "nude")

Sorry lighting in bathroom is not great - electrician is here and the power is shut off.

If I keep these I will stop looking for booties; I don't need two new pairs. Thoughts?

I agree with all your PRO - those a great looking boots. But beacuse of the color not sure that they fill the same role. Can you wear them in the same outfits as old ones?

I vote keep. I actually prefer the colour of the new ones.... probably because the other ones aren't really "nude" either. I really like the shaft and heel heights as well.

Cute boots but not a substitute. A completely different colour. You need lighter boots.

Sorry if I am missing exactly what you are looking for, but I agree the color would not serve as a replacement. I have these suede booties that have served me well for several years. The toe shape is different, so perhaps not the vibe you wanted.

I actually like them even better than your old boots. As long as you're not looking for "nude" that is -- they're a really nice neutral and I like where the vamp hits your ankle.

These are great but not a replacement...if you need a light boot. If not - i.e. if a bookending bootie would do just as well, these will be brilliant.

I like them. I understand other people's concern about not being an exact replica, but perhaps trying these with the same outfits as your old boots will give you the answer of whether these are a real replacement.

Sometimes I get it in my head that I need a near-exact replica of a beloved item as a replacement, only to realize that something a little different ends up serving me better. Not sure if that may ever apply to you or not, but I thought I'd point it out.

One difference is that the old boots look like a cool color, whereas the new ones look like a warm color, if that matters to you.

That's really helpful, Jaileen. There definitely is something about that original color that I really liked. (Funny, I feel like I intuitively know a lot about color, but there is something about cool and warm that I just don't always get, nor do I understand how it relates to my own coloring.) Thanks for bringing that up.

Yes, Janet, you may be right. And at $80, they may just be a nice addition. I honestly don't know. Full disclosure: we are in the midst of a potential house purchase and I am totally anxiety ridden. I probably shouldn't be purchasing anything at all.

Good insight that your potential house buying anxiety may be spilling over into shopping indecision. I find it hard to make wardrobe decisions as well if there is a bigger issue causing me stress.

I think you'd get a ton of use from these new ones - what wouldn't they go with?? And $80 seems so reasonable for a nice boot too. Just saying.

I noticed the same thing as JAileen. I can only speak for myself, but I know that if I added these boots I'd still find myself wanting a cool-toned boot as well. These wouldn't work (for my eye) in a lot of outfits where putty, white, or even taupe would.

When we bought a house a year ago, I was so wracked with anxiety I didn't buy a single thing for a couple months before/after. I basically skipped warm-weather wardrobe maintenance last year entirely, which has led to a much bigger seasonal shop this year. If you're able to find things that will help you function and put a spring in your step, more power to you!

Have you tried them on with the outfits you typically wear with your old boots? I think that would help you determine if these are the right ones.

My question was exactly what Janet just asked. Maybe trying outfits with them will make the answer obvious.

I'd also ask, how will you feel about them in a year? $80 is a price point for me personally where, if something isn't spot-on, I would rather hold out for a perfect item five (or more) times the price. That's just my own little neurosis, though.

And, gosh, where does (potentially) buying a house fall on that good old Social Readjustment Rating Scale? That's a lot on your shoulders.

Vivian, aren't you running low on footwear at the moment? I think that if you like these and they are comfortable they could certainly function well in your wardrobe (as long as the color jives). They are certainly not going to function as a replacement for the nude boots BUT they would serve the function of "darker but not dark dark" booties if you don't already have something.

I'm with Janet's second of three messages, that sometimes something a bit different ends up serving us better. I've driven myself crazy in the past sometimes trying to get a certain colour or style that just isn't easy to find any more. And sometimes you get a new love and can emotionally let the greatness of the first item go. I have a tendency to sometimes keep the first item too long in that case. Can't help you therefore sorry Viva!

I like the new ones - and they seem a great boot for the price.

How worn out are the old ones - they look okay from the pics I see but I know pics may not tell the whole story.

If a slightly worn look is acceptable (for example for the movies or errands) you might be able to still wear them and get the new ones for your dressier occasions (work presentations or meetings). Then you could get new taupe/light ones next season and keep these chestnut ones.

I would be tempted to try them with the key looks that you need the boots for and see how you go.

I am having a footwear dilemma right now - my budget is limited - and I want new winter footwear. In a perfect world I would add in a new pair of black ankle boots, cognac tall boots and bone/metallic flats. But I do not have that budget!! So I have ditched the tall boots and am deciding about if I could stretch to both other pairs. I do have two pairs of black ankle boots already (one seven years old, a little dressy, one three years old, very casual, but both in good condition )- I am tired of them both however.

Getting tired of stuff is another issue altogether eh? I can too at times. But then if I have heaps to choose from I get the guilts about that too... sigh.

I have had only seldom luck with "exactly replacing" something I love until duplicating. Not much help, I know:-(.
