Hi Everyone!

LACeleste kindly sent me this sparkly, silk top several weeks ago - tags still on it - with an interesting back story which I'll let LACeleste tell you about if she wants!)

I've got a couple of questions about the outfit in the pic.

1) Does this shade of red look OK on me? Generally speaking - red is a very difficult color for me to wear. What do you think of this shade on me?

2) What do you think of the combination of the red with the light blue tuxedo pants? Too crazy/out there/just wrong - or fashion forward and fun? I bought these pants over the Shoptoberfest weekend - found them at Club Monaco (light blue pants were on my list of items that I was looking for), got a huge thumbs-up from the YLF Girl Gang - and so snapped them up. I've got plans for these pants mixed with other colors - think pink!

3) I'm bummed that I forgot to tuck the top into the pants in the front, (in the pic) because I liked it better that way - but, if I do then I'm going to have to wear a belt. What color of belt do you recommend? (Also, what color of footwear? - what do you think of the S.E. pettys?)

4) Should I hem up the pants legs? There is a LOT of scrunch (excess material) at the ankles - what do you think?

I really like the top on you. I don't like it with the pants, but maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy with color combinations (particularly for dressy outfits).

Love the top and love the pants. Both look wonderful on you. I'm going to defer to others to comment on the two as an outfit; I have a lot to learn about putting outfits together.

I like this red - both on you in general and with those pale blue tux pants.
I am not sure about the scrunch, it seems fine everywhere but for the last 1" where it looks like a roll - or did you roll them?

What Sveta said. Oh my goodness that top is gorgeous on you -- so festive and fun and fashion forward with the blue -- and I want those pants!!! Oh boy those are fantastic!!

I think these booties work but so would some fun ankle strap shoes if you have any.

I don't know why (i.e., I can't give a point-by-point explanation), but I love everything about this outfit! You just look like you would walk into any restaurant, bar, club, concert and totally own the place.

The color combination is unexpected but very nice! As far as a belt, my cramped brain can only come up with matching either the top or the pants - and I also like Suz's suggestion of the ankle strap shoe.

This works! I love that soft, dark red on you. It's a kind red, not as hard to wear as a bright red, IMO. The sparkles help, too. Since I've met you IRL, I feel better able to say that this is the perfect festive Marley outfit! The top and pants look great together. I'd look for a light colored neutral belt, maybe white with an embossed reptile pattern. If you can't find one you like, it looks fine with the top untucked. I'm not well versed in boots and PPL, so I'll let others advise on that. You really look terrific in this!

2) Marleylicious. Color combo works for me.
3) White, cream, bone, taupe. I would stick with light colors. Love the pettys with them.
4) I like the scrunch. I vote leave as is.

Just remembered where I first got the idea for this color combo! Angie's Pinterest board, of course! These are with tomato red - but, I think switching out the tomatos for pomegranates works better on me!

Did you size up in the gorgeous pants? I see they show them on the model skin tight. I like the way you are wearing them a whole lot better. In fact, seeing them on the model I wasn't even remotely tempted. Now, however, it's a different story.

Suz - yes, I went up one size on the tux pants - my regular size fit pretty skinny-like - and I wanted a more slouchy fit. The fabric has kind of a sheen to it (as does the tux stripe down the legs) - so you can dress them up - or dress them down (I'm thinking of an ivory distressed linen t-shirt that I have which I think would be fun for a more dressed-down look.) Also, keeping on the look-out for a pale pink jacket to wear with them!

BTW, online they have a white tux jacket that Anna linked me to at one point....if you can't find pale pink, a pale pink shirt with the white jacket might do? It is on sale.

Marley, I love the red top on you, and the light blue tux pants. (Although the pants need a little less length to my eye). I also like the colours together - but I don't think this outfit is coming together. The silhouette of the top seems too short to wear untucked or faux tucked, and the taupe booties do not ground the outfit.

May I suggest matching the blue tux pants with a white or cream top of sorts and your white cut out booties. Black top and shoes will also work.

I do see a red top with light blue pants matched with cognac shoes. Effective bookending will add that all important cohesive element. I hope that makes sense. xo

Those tux pants are great! I think they would look amazing with a white or silvery top and your white booties.

The red top is a great colour on you, but it looks a bit short. I like the sparkly!

I haven't chimed in yet because I was contemplating. Absolutely LOVE you in the red top. Absolutely LOVE the pants. Cannot figure out if they go together or not. But yes, you can wear both of these pieces like nobody's business, you gorgeous thing.

Love the top and love the pants. And I like the colors together too! I definitely think this shade of red works on you. (And it's interesting to me that red is a difficult color for some people to wear - it's one of my easiest colors to wear).

I can't tell about the length... one pic, they look perfect. The other, they look a smidge too scrunched. I still want scrunch with these, but maybe a little less.

As for the outfit as a whole... I think it is the shoes throwing me off. Too much pale color on bottom to balance the bright red. Maybe a black shoe? I think I read something about red absorbing almost as much light as black...

Thank you everyone for your advice and feedback - I'm going to play with both this top and pants some more and see if I can come up with something (as Angie says) is more "cohesive!" Also karymk - love your red and blue outfit! Thank you for sharing!
