Polished or RATE hair? - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all! I need your help deciding what to do with my unruly hair. We are getting family pictures done tonight at the beach. This is what I'm wearing - funnily enough this is what I came up with before seeing Angie's post on how to wear Bermuda length shorts! The question is what do I do with my hair? I normally flat iron it and my overall look definitely runs more towards polished than RATE (rough around the edges). But since we are on the beach, should I go with a more casual beachy hair? To be clear here in the picture it is not done at all - just straight from a morning at the beach. And no make up - yikes! Since this top is pretty flowy and waist surrendering I'm leaning towards flat ironing it to keep the overall look more polished. Thoughts?

I love how your hair looks when curly, is your current cut conducive to wearing it that way?

I see your point about flat ironing it for more polish although I like the visual of RATE hair considering the setting. I vote for beachy hair

Wow Christy, that is a GORgeous top, necklace and shorts outfit! Perfect for the family photo shoot! I'm trying to recall how you do your hair *beachy* I think I've seen it curled, but controlled, which might be really nice. I wouldn't fight with it too much, because it could look unnatural if there's a breeze and your hair doesn't move, lol! But you want people years later to know it's you when they look at the picture, too! You have such impeccable taste, I'm sure it will be fine whatever you decide. Did I mention how beautiful your top is? *sigh* Enjoy!

Thanks for chiming in ladies! Aida - my current cut will work for curly or straight. Its a bit of an angled bob that's shorter in the back.

Christy as you know I am team polish and while I do love you hair au naturel, I vote polished as I think it's a nice balance to the outfit.

Given it's a family photos, and something you will no doubt keep for many years, I would be asking myself if I am more comfortable RATE or polished.

Then I vote curly all the way

Sarah - thanks! And yes, these are the loft shorts. I adore them and they make me feel skinny so I love them even more!

You could embrace your curls, OR.....
My stylist said the easiest beach look is flat ironed hair with plenty of wax to fill the hair cuticle from absorbing moisture.
I did it for a week at the beach and loved it. It was my parents 50th wedding anniversary with PHOTOS!
I washed it a couple of times and then flat ironed and applied lots of wax. It is a different, not so clean and bouncy feel, but totally worth it. You just have to go with the salty, dirty feel.
Paul MItchell spray wax is good or if you have a Visible Changes, their brand is a little lighter.
But either way you fix you hair, you look awesome!

Mmm... I'll be a lone nay-sayer and go for flat-ironed. You have a kinda haute preppy thing going on, and I think you should run all the way with it - which calls for coltish, sleek hair.
